Associate CMO
Job Description
Virta Health is on a mission to transform type 2 diabetes and weight-loss care. Current treatment approaches aren’t working—over half of US adults have either type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, and obesity rates are at an all-time high. Virta is changing this by helping people reverse their metabolic condition through innovations in technology, personalized nutrition, and virtual care delivery reinvented from the ground up. We have raised over $350 million from top-tier investors, and partner with the largest health plans, employers, and government organizations to help their employees and members restore their health and take back their lives. Join us on our mission to reverse diabetes in 100 million people.
The Virta Medical Group is searching for a physician executive to lead its growing team of physicians and nurse practitioners. For nearly a decade, Virta clinicians have successfully managed the diabetes, pre-diabetes, and obesity of patients in all 50 states, improving the metabolic health of tens of thousands. Virta practice focuses on evidence-based nutritional guidelines backed by peer-reviewed evidence, and has recently expanded to include the judicious use of anti-obesity medications. Due to the extraordinary growth of this team, Virta is looking to add talent to its physician management bench.
Reporting to the chief medical officer, the primary responsibility of this role is to lead the team of 50+ physicians and nurse practitioners clinicians and set the Virta Medical Group (VMG) up for success as the team continues to grow.
This leader will develop and mentor existing clinical managers, will scale training and onboarding of new clinicians, manage quality assurance activities and clinician evaluation, and in collaboration with our clinical safety leadership, improve the quality of the care Virta provides to patients at scale. This leader will also manage recruitment of new clinicians and the careful curation and development of a culture of support, clinical excellence, and teamwork.
We are looking for a physician who has at least 10 years of experience directly managing physicians and nurse practitioners in a dynamic, high-accountability environment. This is not a role for an academic division director or department chief, who sets the tone for the organization but leads by consensus. We are looking for a physician who has worked in an organization where she/he has hired, fired, evaluated, and promoted other physicians (and non-physicians). Most likely, this leader comes from a business/corporate role, although we’re open to considering a leadership role in a large private practice or similar organization.

Work cross-functionally with coaching, product, and operations teams to align clinical goals with business objectives.
Represent Virta externally in commercial and academic settings.

Board Certified in an ABMS specialty, such as endocrinology, internal medicine, emergency medicine, or family practice.
10+ years in a leadership role, managing physicians and nurse practitioners.
Proven experience in clinical business processes such as hiring, firing, performance management, and quality improvement.
Experience managing clinical and business metrics, including quality, clinical outcomes, and productivity.
Experience in a growth-stage organization or similar environment is preferred.
Strong communication, collaboration, and team-building skills, and a demonstrated record of working cross-functionally to effect change beyond the medical group.
