Head of Sales North American Institutions
Job Description
The Head of North American Sales requires a strategic, dynamic and collaborative leader responsible for spearheading the distribution efforts across the region with a team extending to 7 employees. Role has primary responsibility for sales of public markets strategies and will collaborate closely with specialist teams covering private markets and alternatives sales functions as needed to bring the full suite of Manulife investment capabilities to institutional clients. Serving as both a leader and a coach, the executive will guide a high-performing generalist sales team dedicated to expanding our business, nurturing client relationships, and collaborating with private markets and alternatives sales teams, consultant relations, and client relationship management to enhance our platform.
Position Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute a North America sales strategy for Manulife’s institutional business across the US, establishing sales targets, and maximizing the achievement of new business and market penetration.
- Serve as a product expert on the strategies represented.
- Support the sales team in providing presentations to existing clients and prospective investors and performing the follow-up necessary to give investors confidence in the firm’s capabilities.
- Collaborate closely with marketing and product development to position offerings effectively in the marketplace.
- Develop a strategic partnership strategy across the distribution organization to build lasting relationships with our top clients and prospects.
Team Management:
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing sales team across key North American markets.
- Set clear objectives, establish accountability, and provide ongoing coaching to ensure team success.
- Retain, mentor, and manage top talent.
Client Engagement:
- Cultivate and directly bring in new business, as well as maintain relationships with institutional investor.
- Act as a senior representative of Manulife in client and prospect meetings, articulating the value of our solutions.
Collaboration:
- Partner with Sales, Marketing, Legal, Finance, and Product teams to ensure alignment between client needs and business strategies.
- Work with marketing to create impactful materials and campaigns that support the distribution strategy.
Market Intelligence and Engagement:
- Monitor trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes in public markets to adapt strategies and maintain competitive positioning.
- Participate and speak at conferences as a senior representative of MIM, including the ability to articulate our capabilities in the marketplace, and lead conference strategy and engagement for the distribution team.
Required Qualifications:
- 20+ years of generalist sales experience across public and private markets and has operated and interfaced with Multi Asset Classes.
- 5+ years in a distribution leadership role, and 3+ years managing a successful team.
- Proven track record of developing solid relationships with Sales Teams, Clients, and Investors.
- Experience managing and leading sales teams with demonstrated success in meeting targets.
- Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) required; Master’s degree (or international equivalent) preferred

Client Relationship Management: Exceptional skills in managing client relationships, and raising AUM with the capacity to influence and engage sophisticated investors.
Communication Proficiency: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to comprehend and convey complex information to the sales team, colleagues, and clients.
Technical Proficiency: Proficient in IT, with the ability to leverage technology effectively.
Teamwork and Independence: Capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a broader organizational context.
Analytical and Conceptual Skills: Strong analytical and conceptual skills, able to understand and articulate complex concepts, ideas, and processes.
Professional Presence: Possesses the maturity and credibility to present effectively to clients and colleagues.

Salary range is expected to be between
$211,600.00 USD - $393,500.00 USDIf you are applying for this role outside of the primary location, please contact recruitment@manulife.com for the salary range for your location. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
