Job Description

The Acceptance Solutions (AS) team is undergoing a transformation to uphold our leading market position and strong brand reputation in both the enterprise and small business sectors. As a Director of Software Engineering within the AS Payments Team and in Alternate Payments, your role will involve providing hands-on leadership to guide the team in achieving this mission. You will lead a team of exceptional engineers, defining, executing, and delivering both functional and non-functional features at scale swiftly, while fostering a culture of cross-functional collaboration and engineering excellence. This position is based in Austin and reports to the Senior Director of Software Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the entire development lifecycle of solutions and manage complex projects with significant financial impact.
  • Lead several teams composed of both full-time employees and contractors.
  • Ensure product delivery despite complex technical interdependencies with teams across different regions.
  • Adopt a GenAI-first mindset to enable faster development and bring in innovations
  • Offer technical leadership to the development team through design participation, design reviews, and code reviews.
  • Cultivate a culture of engineering excellence, focusing on quality, security, performance, scalability, availability, resilience, etc.
  • Collaborate with product managers to develop strategies and roadmaps that align with business objectives.
  • Work with remote teams to ensure alignment in product development.
  • Reduce technical debt and operational/support costs.
  • Manage the prioritization and delivery of platform enhancements and bug fixes.
  • Ensure adherence to incident management, change management, and problem management processes.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop a high-performing team of software engineers.
  • Invest in the career growth of direct reports.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
·10+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications
·12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
· Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field required. Masters Degree or other advanced degree preferred.
· 14+ years of relevant experience with 5+ years' experience in leading Engineering teams.
· Expertise with the Java platform or higher
· Expertise with Spring, Vertx, framework or similar
· Experience building microservices, specifically with HTTP, REST, JSON and XML.
  Experience with Messaging systems like Kafka, IBM MQ
· Experience with relationship and NoSQL database
· Proven experience delivering highly scalable and available production systems.
· Strong analytical, problem solving and communication/articulation skills.
· Strong business acumen, ability to grasp big picture and explain to team in simple terms.
· Track record of hiring and managing world-class software engineers.
· Experience with Agile methodologies and software development lifecycle principles.
· Ability to manage multiple competing top priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 176,400.00 to 256,000.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
