Position Overview:

The Director of Accounting is responsible for managing the company’s core accounting functions and the monthly close process.  This role will support the Financial Reporting and SOX teams to ensure successful completion of the annual audit while maintaining a robust control environment. This role will also support the Controller and CAO in building a best-in-class accounting organization based in the company’s new Tempe, Arizona headquarters, as well as identify and support process improvement and automation opportunities within the accounting team.  This role will also support and be a trusted business advisor to operations and other corporate teams.

Job Qualifications:

 ●  Bachelor’s degree in accounting, required

   Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in leading accounting functions for a publicly traded company or a large privately held company

●  Experience in the QSR/restaurant space or an industry with multi-unit locations, preferred

 ●  Strong leadership and team development capabilities

 ●  Demonstrated history of process and automation improvements  

●  Strong knowledge of GAAP and SOX/internal controls

●  Former public accounting experience and a CPA, preferred      

 

Location Requirement:

This position is required to be in Tempe, Arizona, and requires four days a week in office (Monday-Thursday) with Fridays as an optional remote day.

Key Result Areas (KRAs):

  • Partner with CAO and Corporate Controller to structure and build out the accounting organization at the company’s new headquarters

  • Lead the Company’s core accounting functions including cash, franchise billing, fixed assets, goodwill and intangibles, accrued expenses, loyalty and gift card programs, debt, pre-opening, SG&A and the accounting for the company’s 670 plus owned shops

  • Oversee the month-end and year-end financial close processes for core accounting functions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of monthly results.  Support the Consolidations and Reporting team on the production of monthly reporting deliverables

  • Work with the Controller, Financial Reporting and SOX teams to support the company’s external audit and maintain a strong SOX control environment

  • Mentor and develop the accounting team; foster a culture of high performance and continuous improvement

  • Identify automation and process improvement opportunities in the core accounting organization.  Partner with the Controller and key dependencies to execute on chosen opportunities  

  • Support operations, FP&A and other corporate teams to better understand results and key drivers and ad hoc requests as needed, so they can make timely and informed decisions

  • Help lead the transition of the core accounting functions to the company’s new Tempe, Arizona based headquarters

  • Partner with the CAO and Corporate Controller to structure and build out the accounting organization at the company’s new headquarters

  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

  • In-Office Environment: Must be able to work in a busy, crowded, and loud office with frequent distractions and interruptions

    • Must be able to collaborate in-person with occasional impromptu in-person meetings 

  • Office Conditions: Adaptability to typical office conditions, which may include exposure to air conditioning, heating, artificial lighting, and varying noise levels

  • Mobility: Ability to sit, stand, reach, twist, stretch, and work at a desk for long stretches.  Must be able to occasionally move or lift office items up to 25 pounds

  • Hearing Requirements: Hearing must be sufficient or correctable to ensure clear understanding of spoken information, including participating in virtual meetings and phone calls. Use of hearing aids or other assistive devices is acceptable if needed.

  • Reading and Writing Proficiency: Ability to read and write in English is essential for processing documents, drafting reports, and following up on necessary actions. Proficiency in written communication is required to handle job-related tasks effectively.

  • Vision Requirements: Vision must be adequate or correctable to perform essential job duties, such as reading documents on a computer screen and using other visual tools. Use of corrective lenses or other measures to meet visual requirements is expected if needed.

  • Technology Proficiency: Must be proficient in operating a computer and other office productivity tools such as printers, scanners, and collaboration software. 

  • Effective Communication: Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with team members, clients, and other stakeholders via email, video conferencing, and other in office communication tools.

Compensation:

$164,080 - DOE
