Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Powertrain Casting Engineering Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Manufacturing Engineer.
The primary responsibility of this role is to establish capital budget for major powertrain projects, set equipment & die specs, follow ordered items through delivery, set process parameters, lead adjustment & quality confirmation trials, lead product defect countermeasure activities.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager at the Bodine Aluminum, Jackson TN location, the person in this role will support the TMNA PE Casting Engineering department's objective to provide the manufacturing site (Bodine Aluminum) with the best equipment, tooling and process at the lowest cost to meet their production objectives. An engineer who thrives in a hands-on environment would be a necessary ingredient for success in this role.
What you’ll be doing
Manage Projects
Existing Vehicle Powertrain: includes pre-production preparation of Toyota casting products such as aluminum cylinder blocks, HYBRID transmission cases and housings
BEV Development: planning and pre-production preparation for BEV STEP 3 e-Axle case and housing and suspension member (SOP~2027)
Project scope can span 12-24mo and includes planning / budget development, equipment / die procurement, equipment installation, and casting trials leading to SOP.
Project budgets typically range from $5~$45M
Manage Processes
Study TMC based processes and develop unique NA “Operation Drawings” that support NA processes.
Other processes that may require support; shikumi development, hoshin (goals) objectives
Resolve Problems
Build and manage problem list (“Punchlist”) that develop on a regular (daily) basis during the course of a project.
Learn and apply TBP (Toyota Business Practice) method of problem solving.
Lead / Manage Team Members
Lead a project group during the pre-production phase of a project. This includes scheduling meetings, leading equipment installation contractors, reviewing materials and gaining consensus.
What you bring
BS (or above) in Engineering (or equivalent related engineering experience) - Mechanical Eng, Metallurgical Eng, Electrical
3+ years of Production Preparation and/or Manufacturing Experience
1+ years of major model change experience (equipment, fixtures, tooling, transfers) & impact to part quality / manufacturability
1+ years of experience as project leader with resp. for a working group including job responsibility coordination and overall project milestone management
Added Bonus if you have
3+ years of Casting or Metals related manufacturing engineering experience
1+ years High Pressure Die Casting Experience
1+ years direct working experience with NC machining
1+ year working knowledge with Fanuc Robot including system integration and troubleshooting
1+ year working knowledge with Toyopuc PLC including system integration and troubleshooting
1+ years working knowledge with 2D / 3D CAD systems for equip layout and part/die modeling applications
Proficient with AutoCAD, Creo or other 2D/3D programs
Proficient with programming / troubleshooting industrial PLC platforms
Experienced with preparing documentation, presenting / gaining approval for capital projects and cost justification proposals.
Successful completion of JKK and TBP
Experience leading TEMA PE Projects with budgets exceeding $5M
1+ TMNA project cycles from Planning to SOP.
