Summary:

This position is responsible for managing the Student Billing and Accounts Payable functions within the Finance department. They will also assist with other tasks in the office.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for billing tuition and other fees owed by students and the tracking and collection of the associated accounts receivable. This position works collaboratively with Lawrenceville community stakeholders, including Admissions, Registrar, and Dean of Students.  
  • Transfer data from the billing subledger to the main accounting system and reconcile those accounts. 
  •  Answer questions from parents and Lawrenceville School colleagues to promptly and accurately to resolve problems or issues. 
  •  Work to streamline processes and systems.
  • Perform all accounts payable functions to pay the School’s obligations on time.       
  • Train community members who are new to their responsibilities in Expense management. Answer questions as needed. Strengthen purchasing practices and cost-effective procurement at the School.
  • Responsible for the accurate preparation of 1099s     
  • Other duties as assigned, including other reconciliations and accounting entries.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is required.
  • Two to five (3-5) years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities, preferably at a non-profit institution.
  • Preferred knowledge of general accounting and bookkeeping. Experience working in a Business Office setting in an educational environment is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, technical, systems, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with strong attention to detail. Must be able to complete multiple and complex tasks and be flexible to manage a varying workflow.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with parents as well as Lawrenceville School colleagues.
  • Ability to remain professional at all times; organize and prioritize work assignments with the ability to meet deadlines in a busy work environment; demonstrate flexibility to changing situations and priorities.
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting software, advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Ability and desire to quickly learn other accounting software, particularly Veracross Student Billing, Financial Edge NXT and Paymerang payment systems.

  • Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work. Must be able to remain on their feet or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Required to climb stairs, as well as stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 25lb without assistance.
  • Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, etc.
  • Must be capable of using visual display terminal with continuous wrist movement on a keyboard.
  • Required to, talk, hear, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Required to work some evenings, weekends and holidays in conjunction with School calendar and events.
  • Ability to see with normal parameters.
  • Operates in a professional work environment.
  • Able to work in a semi-open professional environment with other employees.
