Job Description
The engineer works within the Regional Engineering team to support Sales and Aftermarket to meet customer requirements. They will provide application support to global drawing offices for engineering orders and proposals. Where necessary, the engineer will apply standard engineering techniques and consult specialists within other Engineering Solutions teams. They will provide engineering support for troubleshooting, commissioning issues, escalating support as necessary and working with Central Expertise as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Reviewing & processing application requests.
- Following standard techniques and procedures, selection / application of products to meet customers' needs for mechanical seals.
- Generation of engineering proposals / specifications for products, including determining cost-effective materials for production.
- Calculations (including seal leakage, heat generation, balance temp, flow rates, etc. for mechanical seals.
- Produce complete and informative drawing office requests and provide applications guidance to designers to complete layout (GA) and detail drawings.
- Use CAD to create proposal drawings, and to aid liaison with global drawing offices.
- Record activity through iProjects & Lean Kit and ensure timely response to internal customers.
- Detailed failure analysis activities, including investigation / reporting / resolution.
- Approve / reject purchase or manufacture of fabricated parts not to drawing specification.
- Raise / process / approve Engineering Change Notice (ECN) requests.
- Provide day-to-day technical support to Regional Sales and Service teams.
- Work closely with Sales team and report any retrofit or upgrade opportunity.
- Manage and report personal workload to meet customer and departmental objectives.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary based on departmental needs, or as required by Manager.
- Work in line with John Crane standards, procedures, and policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering Discipline (Mechanical Eng. (ME) highly preferred).
- At least 1 year of experience working with mechanical seals and/or rotating equipment preferred.
- Working knowledge of personal computing, CAD (Solid Edge preferred) and application software.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, changing priorities and reassign priorities to complete assignments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
