Job Description
Reporting to the Americas Director of HSE, the Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for activities related to monitoring, administering, evaluating and coordinating field service health and safety programs to enhance safe workplace and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory agencies.
Essential functions - Job duties to include but are not limited to:
- Provide health and safety support to both Operations and Service locations in the East region to ensure conformance with regulatory and company requirements and initiatives. When visiting field service location to do the following;
- Utilize audit/inspection tools to conduct audits and risk assessments in support the HSE program.
- Manage and track regional Key Performance Indicators and drive improvements toward goals.
- Conduct root cause analyses and incident investigations for workplace injuries and develop and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Utilize audit/inspection tools to conduct audits and risk assessments for Operations and Service locations in the East region.
- Conduct incident investigations and root cause analyses for workplace injuries, develop and implement sustainable corrective actions, and assist in the management of the worker’s compensation program for both Operations and Service locations in the East region.
- Monitor industrial health compliance.
- Complete and actively participate in all EHS training requirements.
- Ability to travel and support Service locations: 25%.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work environment is typically considered within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours to include offices, manufacturing plants and repair facilities. Work environment may also include customer sites including oil well sites, and meeting venues. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and approved PPE is required when on the factory floor.
Qualifications
Years of Experience: 5 or more years’ HSE experience required required supporting company environmental and safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Education Level: Bachelor’s degree. Relevant experience in lieu of degree considered. Professional certification, specifically OSHA General Industry Certification (30 hours) preferred.
Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Full knowledge of industry safety practices, including OSHA compliance.
- Demonstrated ability in leading change and establishing a proactive HSE culture.
- Strong ability to identify risks and hazards and problem solve to implement solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Interacts with all levels of internal and external individuals on significant matters, often requiring coordination.
- Demonstrated prior experience using software related to incident management, risk analysis, and worker’s compensation case management.
- Fluent user of Microsoft Office Suite.
Background: This position requires Sensitive Security Information (SSI) access and vetting via the TSA. Applicant must successfully pass a federal background investigation.

The compensation for this position ranges from $56,400.00 - $131,600.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills, job-related knowledge, and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
