As a Design Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping customer-focused solutions by creating 3D CAD model designs and developing technical drawings to guide manufacturing and assembly processes. You will ensure designs meet customer specifications and modern manufacturing demands while adhering to industry standards and company guidelines. Collaborating closely with sales and manufacturing teams, you will deliver manufacturable solutions that address diverse customer needs. This role provides foundational experience across a wide range of industries, offering insight into diverse applications and the complete design process from concept to production.
What You Will Do
- Utilize advanced CAD parametric modeling software to design detailed components and assemblies, ensuring CAD models are fully defined and ready for manufacturing processes.
- Create comprehensive drawings that specify all necessary tolerances and dimensions for each manufacturing operation, incorporating Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles, and ensure drawings are clear, accurate, and adhere to industry standards and company guidelines.
- Work with the manufacturing team to perform design reviews, providing technical assistance and guidance during production and assembly.
- Create and maintain material records in the ERP system to ensure accurate material number management and develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support manufacturing and assembly processes, ensuring all components and assemblies are accurately documented.
- Ensure the upkeep and revision of drawings, BOMs (Bills of Materials), and design standards to align with current engineering methods and procedures. Regularly assess and update design documents to incorporate the latest practices and technologies. Manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) to guarantee precise documentation and communication of all design modifications.
- Collaborate with the Application Engineering team to review project specifications and translate them into manufacturable designs, developing and finalizing customer approval drawings as necessary to ensure all customer requirements are met.
- Calculate forces, loads, stress, and strains required to meet application needs to ensure and optimize functionality and design success.
- Identify necessary purchased components and create purchasing details
- Review and establish incoming inspection protocols with the quality team to ensure component quality and compatibility.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvements and engage in improvements with cross-departmental teams, participating in initiatives to streamline operations and reduce waste.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent combination of technical degree and minimum four years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of engineering design principles
- Familiarity with document control procedures for design records.
- Creative problem-solving skills for customized engineering solutions.
- Experience with automation and/or clamping technology preferred.
- Proficiency in CAD modeling software. Creo experience preferred
- Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
