Senior Associate, Media Relations and External Communications
Job Description
ROLE SUMMARY
The Senior Associate, Media Relations and External Communications will support global media relations and external communications strategies to advance Pfizer’s business priorities, lead day-to-day execution of operations and special projects, and help increase public understanding of Pfizer’s work to:
deliver first-in-class science
bring medicines to the world faster
improve patient health
reduce healthcare disparities
grow its business for the benefit of all stakeholders
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Associate will work closely with Pfizer external communications and media relations colleagues to support the planning and execution of robust earned media strategies, product promotion programs, pipeline/portfolio milestones, corporate events and other initiatives. He/she will also work with colleagues on executing and measuring the success of that work.
Specifically you will:
Work alongside team members focused on external communications and global media relations to support successful outcomes across their strategic work
Spearhead the team’s use of technology, especially AI, and company tools/resources.
Serve as client relationship manager for some large and essential contracts and relationships, including Business Wire and Cision, along with some public relations agency management responsibilities.
Manage the operations of the team, including incoming calls and emails, events and press release calendars, news
monitoring and reporting, files and asset library, SOW/PO management, etc.
Manages the company’s Cision and Brandwatch dashboards and all related monitoring and measurement activity
Respond to straightforward requests from stakeholders (including media); manage basic opportunities or factual requests; work in consultation with team members on more complex inquiries or story opportunities.
Interview internal sources and research subjects in order to obtain information and verify facts for use in public relations or media programs.
Write, edit and prepare external materials, including press releases, social media posts, bios and fact sheets.
Provide PPT design support for communications plans, results reports and other projects.
Research and maintain the team’s resources to inform and support outreach activity, like reporter bios, media lists and clips of coverage.
Work with the digital team in keeping Pfizer’s newsroom up to the most current standards and responsive to the media’s needs.
Support the external communications team in keeping therapeutic area content up to date on Pfizer’s External Communications Repository, a resource for colleagues across the world, and on the company’s public website, Pfizer.com.
Develop and maintain editorial policy and highest standards for the team’s writing; may coordinate production and distribution of materials.
The position reports to the Vice President, Global Media Relations and External Communications and is based at the Company headquarters in New York City.
As a member of Pfizer’s world class communications team, he/she will help further the implementation of an integrated, long-term communications that includes and will:
Serve as a functional operations and communications expert to all Corporate Affairs colleagues and help to build understanding and knowledge among all
Manage organizational interaction and relationships with earned media, including reporters, editors, producers and digital publishers
Work with the business divisions and/or functions to develop specific plans to address key opportunities and issues/crisis effectively
Position Pfizer as a global leader in improving patient health
Influence the operating environment by gaining coverage for Pfizer/industry perspectives on important and complex issues and/or current affairs
Coordinate with regional counterparts (LatAm, EUAfME and AsiaPac) on local matters or global ones with local implications
Contribute to Pfizer’s digital and social media platforms
Coordinate with Legal and Regulatory to ensure alignment on key issues that broadly affect Pfizer
Work effectively in cross-functional teams to advance communications strategy
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicant must have a Master’s degree with 0 years of relevant experience; OR Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of relevant experience; OR Associate's degree with 6 years of relevant experience; OR a high school diploma or equivalent with 8 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience includes working in in a Communications or Public Relations role.
1 years minimum of Communications or public relations experience, preferably as part of an in-house communications team or at an agency required .
Communications or public relations professional with at least one year of experience, preferably as part of an in-house communications team or at an agency.
Experience in developing, executing, and reporting ROI of successful communications and media strategies.
Demonstrated track record of leadership in project management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Excellent written, oral, and communications skills, as well as interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively across functions and levels across highly matrixed organization and manage multiple projects against tight deadlines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to work closely with Pfizer leaders, demonstrating poise and executive presence; comfort interacting with senior management and representing broader Global Media Relations, External Communications, and Corporate Affairs teams.
Self-starter, able to work independently as well as with teams.
