Position Overview

The senior videographer plays a crucial role in creating compelling visual content that supports the mission of The Ohio State University’s Office of Advancement. This position requires a highly skilled and creative individual who can lead video projects from concept to completion, ensuring high-quality production standards and effective storytelling. The videographer leads videography and photography production for Advancement, the Alumni Association, and Wexner Medical Center Advancement and must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.

Must exhibit the creative ability to tell compelling stories through visual media, capturing the audience's attention and conveying the intended message effectively. Innovative thinking, and the ability to visualize and execute unique concepts are a must. A master storyteller and editor, the videographer must skillfully create customized deliverables that elicit emotion from an audience of one or many. Must demonstrate a strong understanding of cinematography, lighting, and audio recording techniques. Should possess a strong creative vision, with a keen eye for detail, and ability to develop work that meets the Ohio State aesthetic.

Department Overview

The Office of Advancement at The Ohio State University builds relationships to inspire life-changing philanthropy. Responsible for overseeing, driving content strategy, and monitoring all Advancement-owned marketing channels focused on donor, alumni, friend, fan, and grateful patient audiences, the Advancement Marketing and Communications department (AMC) has a broad base of responsibilities spanning Advancement that helps us identify connections and develop opportunities for collaboration.

Duties and Responsibilities

55%  Responsible for video production that includes the planning, shooting, and editing of high-quality videos (and/or photos) for various platforms, including social media, websites, and events.  Directs video and photo shoots, including storyboard, script, interview questions, shot list, location, equipment, scheduling talent, transportation, etc.  Oversee and implement video projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget and scope.  Collaborate with colleagues, partners and the creative team to develop and present concepts and storyboards.    Manages the studio at Longaberger Alumni House.  Stays on top of current videography, photography and design trends.  Operate and maintain video equipment, including cameras, lighting, and audio gear.  Edits photo and video in the  Adobe platform (Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects Lightroom, etc.).

20%  Edits and proofs content for accuracy, grammar, branding and style.  Develops and manages a budget for creative to deliver against goals/objectives.  Implements university style, voice and tone and incorporates university brand guidelines.  Archives all content and materials on content management system.

20%  Partners with internal stakeholders to understand project requirements and deliver content that meets their needs.  Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure internal and external communications are aligned to achieve maximum impact with desired audiences.  Utilizes Workfront project management system for all projects.  Mentor younger associates and direct vendors and freelancers.  Develops and nurtures cross-functional and collaborative relationships with other creative partners throughout the organization to build reputation in pursuit of improved results.

5% - Completes special projects and other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in film, media, communications, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience, with a strong portfolio showcasing various projects.
  • Four (4) years of relevant experience in film, media, communications.
  • Experience shooting and editing video.
  • Demonstrated expertise in cinematography, lighting, and audio recording techniques, with familiarity with the Ohio State aesthetic and storytelling framework.
  • Proven creative vision and storytelling abilities, with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Extensive experience with video editing software, including Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects, etc.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Master's degree in film, media, communications, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience, with a strong portfolio showcasing various projects.
  • Six (6) years of relevant experience in film, media, communications.
  • Four (4) or more years’ experience shooting and editing video.
  • Diverse portfolio of non-profit video and photo work, higher education and medical experience ideal.
  • Knowledge of Sony camera ecosystem (FX3, A7iV, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication skills.
  • Superior relationship-building skills, including the capacity to build and leverage cross-functional partnerships within and outside of the organization.
  • Proficient project planning skills including the ability to organize, prioritize and manage job responsibilities, effectively multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate accuracy, including the ability to manage details.
  • Experience generating innovative solutions, problem solving, making decisions, and implementing processes focused on continuous improvement.
