Montgomery College, Rockville Campus has an immediate need for a full-time Digital Center Learning Specialist. The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm. This is a bargaining, non-exempt, grade 23 position. Montgomery College promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, belonging, and inclusiveness.
Reporting to the Digital Learning Center Manager, the Digital Learning Center Specialist supports students and faculty in building the digital skills needed to succeed in today’s tech-driven world. This role focuses on providing hands-on assistance with educational software, productivity tools (Microsoft office tools), and emerging technologies like generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot). The specialist plays a key part in designing and leading workshops that promote digital literacy, helping users navigate tools for learning, communication, and creativity.
In addition to troubleshooting software and hardware issues, this position helps shape the student experience by introducing accessible ways to engage with new technologies. The specialist also collaborates with departments across the College to ensure the Digital Learning Center remains a welcoming, high-impact space for learning, experimentation, and support.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Provide daily operational and technical support to students, faculty, and staff in the Digital Learning Center.
- Identify and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues to ensure smooth lab operations.
- Conduct workshops to improve digital skills, including topics like Microsoft Office tools, online platforms, and basic generative AI tools.
- Assist students and faculty with proper use of equipment, applications, and digital learning resources.
- Create and update training materials, user guides, and documentation to support digital tool use.
- Maintain the software library, license information, and inventory of digital learning equipment.
- Open and close classrooms/labs and manage startup/shutdown procedures for hardware and software.
- Collaborate with college departments and other learning centers to support cross-campus digital learning initiatives.
- Participate in campus events and serve as a liaison to promote Digital Learning Center resources.
- Engage with college-wide departments to assist with events and serve as a liaison to promote the Digital Learning Center.
- Stay informed about digital learning trends, including the responsible use of emerging technologies like GenAI, and recommend ideas for student support and programming.
- Support planning and purchasing for new technologies, ensuring alignment with Office of Information Technology (OIT) standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree in a computer-related discipline.
- Two years of experience with computer/printer hardware troubleshooting, software installation/configuration/troubleshooting, project planning and management.
- The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite – word, PowerPoint, access.
- Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with AI tools and platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini).
- Experience designing and facilitating workshops, trainings, or instructional support sessions.
- Experience supporting adult learners, particularly in a community college or higher education setting.
- Ability to translate complex digital concepts into approachable, student-friendly language.
Salary range: $25.18 – $40.28 per hour. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range ($25.18 - $32.73 per hour), based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity.
