Overview
The Manager, Occupational Therapy assumes overall responsibilities for the Occupational Therapy Program within a specific Kennedy Department including program development and daily operations, administrative support, quality improvement projects and compliance, and staff education. The incumbent will additionally provide direct patient care, supervise and mentor occupational therapists at various levels, maintain documentation relative to services offered; and participate in intra-and interdisciplinary training programs. This position serves in a liaison role between Occupational Therapy department leadership and other departments across the Institute.
Responsibilities
1. Overall responsibility for the delivery of occupational therapy services within a specific Kennedy program, which includes program development, monitoring and implementation of daily operations, and quality improvement projects and compliance.2. Provide supervision to assigned occupational therapy staff, to include performance appraisals, progressive discipline, ensuring adherence to standards and expectations regarding documentation, and assisting in staff recruitment, hiring, and training.3. Provide evaluations; develop and implement treatment and patient/caregiver training plans for clients who may have complex medical, social/emotional, and clinical issues; and maintain appropriate caseload.4. Train and provide daily support to all staff providing occupational therapy services in conjunction with other senior clinicians. Track supervision and training within the program to ensure competency and compliance.5. Serve as liaison and primary contact between medical and clinical department leaders and the Assistant Director, Occupational Therapy and Senior Director, Occupational Therapy regarding occupational therapy services within assigned program.6. Maintain documentation that is thorough; objective; pertinent; organized, free from grammatical and spelling errors; concise; clinically accurate; readable for multiple audiences; and in adherence to departmental, Kennedy Krieger Institute, American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), and Maryland Occupational Therapy guidelines. .7. Monitor department productivity and oversee accuracy of scheduling.8. Participate in intradisciplinary and interdisciplinary activities relative to program development, client care (e.g., team conferences), and professional training (e.g., staff development activities).9. Assist leaders with design, implementation and monitoring of quality improvement activities.10. Develop and refine occupational therapy documentation and updates in coordination with the Epic team. Provide leadership for training staff in correct application and usage.11. Assist other discipline leads and senior leadership with updates, improvements, or expansion projects while ensuring compliance with all accreditation standards while demonstrating good fiscal management. This may include assisting with logistics, training, planning, developing, designing space, hiring, ordering supplies and furniture, and setting up of spaces. 12. Lead and/or participate (as appropriate) in hiring and onboarding process. Work with recruiter to review resumes and schedule interviews with candidates. Prepare for new employee’s start and oversee logistics for trainings, scheduling, orientation, onboarding, Epic set up, inclusion in email groups, etc.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:• Must possess and maintain licensure to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the State of Maryland. • Must possess and maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.
EDUCATION:• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of occupational therapy required. Master’s degree highly preferred.
EXPERIENCE:• Minimum 5 years of clinical experience required, with at least 2 years in pediatrics. • Supervisory experience required.
