Job Description
This position is contingent on contract award.
This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The person in this position will represent International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. and provide services outlined below:
International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. is looking for an individual who is an experienced Medical Technologist to perform complex laboratory tests and analysis to assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results. They utilize advanced laboratory techniques and equipment to provide critical data for patient care and medical decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs testing accurately, identifies methodology problems, and enters data as required.
- Performs, resolves, and documents quality control to produce quality results. To include Review of QC data in real time and troubleshoot outliers; Performs and documents quality control as required by lab and department policies; Recognizes out of control, discrepant and unexpected quality control results and notifies the supervisor when appropriate; Uses proper judgment in handling these situations in the absence of a supervisor.
- Perform Calibration of all methods as needed according to instrument specifications. To include Review of calibration results and determine acceptability: Run QC and review results after instrument calibrations.
- Generates incomplete worksheets for current bench assignment to document the status of missed or missing specimens.
- Reviews critical values and notifies appropriate personnel with documented read-back according to established protocols.
- Takes the time to determine workload priorities and to organize work at the beginning of the shift.
- Performs equipment maintenance, seeking assistance from colleagues, if necessary, in order to compete work in a timely manner and within established time frames.
- Perform steps for Instrument troubleshooting promptly to address instrument error codes or sample flags; includes contacting the Manufacturer Hotline as needed.
- Perform new reagent lot-to lot studies as needed. To include proper documentation and determining acceptability of results.
- Understand method specific interferences and be able to determine best corrective action.
- Understand method specific Analytical Measuring Range for each test.
- Understand method specific dilution protocol for each test.
- Run Proficiency testing as assigned. Follow guidelines in Lab Proficiency Testing Policy; Performs and handles proficiency survey samples in an acceptable manner.
- The employee's performance is reliable, competent, and is maintained with minimum supervision.
- Employee performs other duties assigned, as required, in a timely and efficient manner.
- Abides by all procedures and policies set forth by the Laboratory and Chemistry Department.
- Determines proper collection and timely submission of specimens.
- Processes specimens in a timely manner, following written guidance in Lab policy for specific turnaround time rates.
- Performs and reports all tests in accordance with established procedures, in an effort to meet specific turn-around-time criteria.
- Performs quality control procedures on assigned instruments and methods as per Quality Control procedure.
- Analyze and interpret test and control data.
- Reports results expediently for stat testing.
- Investigates inconsistent results and initiates corrective actions when warranted.
- Prepares and loads onto the instrument: reagents, calibrators and quality control materials as needed.
- Demonstrates knowledge of principles and skills in chemistry.
- Demonstrates civility by consistently communicating and interacting verbally, by telephone, or in writing with patients, visitors, students, clinicians, co-workers, supervisors, and other health care workers in a courteous, tactful, and helpful manner.
- Consistently maintains a respectful relationship with co-workers, supervisors, and other health care workers, even during stressful times.
- Willingly assists, provides instruction, and contributes to the effective operation of the section to visitors, students, clinicians, co-workers, supervisors, and other health care works in a courteous, polite, and competent manner.
- Performance must demonstrate the ability to adjust to change or work pressure in a pleasant manner, resolve conflict in a professional fashion, follow instructions conscientiously, and to help the group effort when possible.
- Responsible for following all Medical Center safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Promotes a culture of safety within the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service and works in a safe manner, following established procedures.
- Reports all incidences of unauthorized release of information.
- Confidentiality of all patient sensitive data is maintained, and breeches of confidentiality are documented and disclosed appropriately.
- Employee manages time well, maintains a full workload, and uses time constructively to ensure completion within established time frames.
- Attends all scheduled meetings/in-service classes, unless excused in advance by supervisor.
- Acts ethically and with integrity in accordance with the mission and vision of the medical center.
- Employee completes assignments (TMS requirements, special training assignments, annual customer service training, etc..) by specified deadline.
- Actively participates in and completes competencies and cross training within the section.
- Integrates new subject matter into existing operations willingly and accepts accountability for results.
- Technologist will thoroughly read procedures prior to performing a bench.
- First refers to policies or procedures before asking a question.
- Successfully and diligently completes all required training.
- Learns and retains knowledge obtained during training.
- Receives satisfactory marks for all competency assessments.
- Performs duties as assigned and with minimal guidance or supervision.
- Clearly demonstrates effective time management to ensure that the sections are always covered.
- Organizes workload efficiently to enhance patient care. Ensures that the productivity of the section is maintained by routinely assisting fellow employees as individual workload permits.
- Routinely supports the team concept by making every effort to be cooperative, supportive, and helpful.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements/Certifications:
- Must be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or American Medical Technologists or equivalent MT, MLS, or CLS certification.
- Must possess at least one year of experience as a Generalist. A generalist is defined as a Medical Technologist that can perform testing in all areas of the Clinical Laboratory, to include Chemistry, Blood Bank, Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis. Additionally, experience in Microbiology is preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Education Required:
- Must possess a bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory or related science.
- Have completed a medical technology clinical practice program and have all licenses, permits, and certifications as required.
- A bachelor’s or graduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics, and successful completion of a medical laboratory scientist/clinical laboratory science test program accredited by the national accrediting agency for clinical laboratory sciences an (NAACLS) or a crediting body recognized by the US Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained or
- A full 4-year course of study that included 12 months in a college or hospital based medical technology program or medical technology school approved by a recognized accrediting organization. The professional medical technology curriculum must have consisted of a one-year post bachelor certificate or the last one to two years of a four-year program culminating a bachelor's and a medical technology or
- A bachelor's or graduate higher-level degree from an accredited college/university including 16 semester hours a biological science 16 semester hours of chemistry and 1 semester of mathematics and five years of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and immunology.
Physical Requirements:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
- Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
- May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.
Other Special Qualifications:
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate.
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
- Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance.

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
