Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Social Media Coordinator coordinates the strategy, content development, and performance optimization of Gallaudet University’s social media presence across multiple platforms.
Job Description:
Develops and executes the university’s comprehensive social media strategy aligned with marketing, brand, and enrollment priorities.
Establishes content governance, tone, and guidelines for social media presence across platforms including Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, and X (formerly Twitter).
Partners with Enrollment Marketing to develop lead-generating social content tied to recruitment campaigns, program promotion, and student stories.
Creates and manages content calendars for all live social channels, ensuring diverse, engaging, and inclusive content output.
Develops original posts and campaigns using a variety of formats including video, stories, carousels, infographics, livestreams, and written captions.
Captures and edits photo and video assets using both mobile and professional-grade equipment.
Attends key university events to provide live coverage and capture real-time content.
Responds to social media interactions, messages, and comments to foster community engagement and brand consistency.
Monitors and reports on key performance indicators including reach, engagement, conversions, and sentiment.
Uses tools like Google Analytics, native platform insights, and social listening tools to inform content strategy and optimize performance.
Produces monthly performance dashboards with actionable insights and recommendations for future content planning.
Collaborates with internal teams to plan, launch, and evaluate paid social and digital ad campaigns across platforms like Meta Ads Manager, TikTok, and Google Ads.
Tracks ROI and campaign impact related to enrollment funnels, brand awareness, and event promotions.
Works closely with the communications and creative teams, and enrollment staff to ensure integrated campaign delivery.
Supports university departments in shaping content that aligns with brand voice while reflecting their unique stories and needs.
Assists in the development of visual and multimedia content for broader digital use, including the website and digital publications.
Stays current on platform trends, emerging tools, and algorithm changes to evolve strategy and content formats.
Trains campus communicators on social media best practices, platform features, and content planning tools.
Increases engagement, grows community awareness, and drives key institutional goals, including enrollment marketing and brand visibility within the global Deaf and signing communities and beyond.
Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.
Demonstrates a genuine commitment to belonging in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.
Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.
Prioritizes safety in the workplace as a collective responsibility for the well-being of employees and fosters a culture of safety that is integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols, as well as promptly reporting any safety hazards or incidents.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
A minimum of three years of professional experience with marketing, communications, social media, or a related field.
Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a higher education setting.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
Strong ability in growing social media audiences and increasing engagement through original content and campaigns.
Strong ability to design and implement integrated marketing and communications strategies
Strong ability with creating digital content, including writing, visual design, and multimedia production for online platforms.
Strong ability with marketing tools and concepts across digital, social, and print channels.
Strong ability with the platforms such as Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, email marketing tools, social media management platforms, project management tools, and CRM/CMS systems (e.g., MailChimp, Slate, HubSpot, WordPress).
Strong ability with analyzing and reporting on performance metrics across email and social media, including monitoring trends and identifying brand-building opportunities.
Strong ability with using Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), social video editing tools, graphic design platforms, and video production equipment.
Strong knowledge of digital audio and video equipment, including experience with recording and editing software
Strong understanding of writing, editing, and publishing effective content using SEO principles and clear calls to action.
Strong ability to design and execute effective marketing strategies and activities.
Strong knowledge of creative project workflows and best practices for content development and delivery.
Strong familiarity with social media and email distribution platforms, and understanding of key audiences across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, Snapchat, and emerging channels.
Demonstrated ability to work with and across University departments, outside constituents and groups.
Additional Position Details:
This position may occasionally require evening or weekend work to support Marketing and Admissions events.
