The City of Edgewater is seeking a part-time Court Assistant. Edgewater is a city of approximately 5,000 residents nestled between the cities of Denver, Wheat Ridge, and Lakewood. This position performs a variety of financial, clerical, and analytical administrative duties. The work schedule varies and may change to provide proper coverage and the needs of the court. Currently, the Civic Center hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 9 am to 5 pm. This position reports to the Court Administrator and averages 20-25 hours per week.
Requirements
· Assists and provides backup for the Court Administrator as needed.
· Collects summonses from police department and prepares case files, making sure files and necessary forms are available. Ensures court dates are correct on citations and notifies defendants if corrections are needed.
· Accurately and timely orders driving histories and/or obtains the information from the Colorado Crime Information Center (CCIC).
· Learns and uses the fundamental principles and terminology of the municipal court.
· Performs a variety of administrative duties with a high attention to detail including sorting, reviewing, coding, completing, distributing, and filing documents.
· Organizes and prioritizes tasks to meet deadlines.
· Takes personal responsibility to resolve issues in a timely manner. Keeps customers informed on progress and follows up to ensure customer satisfaction.
· Provides backup for the front desk as needed. Front desk duties include:
o Handles all aspects of customer service and is the primary initial contact for most customer service inquiries and transactions. Answers incoming calls. Provides general information regarding the City. Directs customers to appropriate department for additional assistance.
o Accepts and processes payments for utilities, sales taxes, building permits, fitness center, facility rentals, and other revenues.
o Collects, opens, distributes, and processes incoming and outgoing mail.
o Reconciles cash drawer to daily receipt reports.
· Performs other duties as assigned, including various data entry, filing, record retention, and projects for the Administrative Services Department.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
1) Must have legal authorization to work in the United States of America.
2) Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, provide proof of a safe driving record, and maintain a safe driving record.
3) Submit and pass a pre-employment background check.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 12 months of related experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite 365 and ability to learn organization accounting software.
- Basic principles of effective customer service, public relations, and dispute resolution/persuasion techniques. Must possess excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to accuracy and detail.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
• Must obtain certification to use all criminal history databases maintained by the State of Colorado and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which includes passing a background investigation, training, and certification testing. CCIC training and certification are mandatory for putting warrants into the system and responding to clearance requests from other agencies.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
• Basic verbal and written English language skills and grammar to reasonably communicate information with the public and/or complete relevant written documentation required by job activities.
• Spanish language skills preferred.
