Shift: Monday-Friday 40 hours weekly may include evenings and some holidays

FLSA Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

What you'll be doing:

Under general direction of the Finance Manager, the Finance Technician will primarily work independently while performing multiple functions including general fund accounting, cash management, contracting/purchasing accounts payable, preparation of deposit reports, and will assist the Executive Director with Board of Director meetings and monthly report preparation. 


Requirements

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Processes daily cash receipts, revenue collections, deposit and change requests, and verifies accuracy of deposits. 
  • Responsible for cash management including cash handling training for all staff, petty cash reconciliation and updating safe codes.
  • Responsible for completion of property tax inclusion petitions monthly or as necessary. 
  • Process District scholarship program including review of applications, delivery of awards and end of year reconciliation. 
  • Processes data entry into accounts payable system including contracting, and fund accounting. 
  • Assists in general accounting functions including balancing and reconciling transactions in the general ledger; completing all required journal entries; and assisting with monthly closing and reports. 
  • Develops clear and accurate financial reports and information for internal and external customers including reporting as required by PERA and State of Colorado.
  • Processes accounts payable requests by auditing invoices, research discrepancies, and approve for payment. 
  • Process monthly purchasing card reconciliations.
  • Manages all aspects on IT contract including setting up employee emails, computers and phone extensions.
  • Assists employees, vendors and/or patrons by answering questions related to accounts, procedures, and payments.
  • Displays attention to detail in quality of work.
  • Participate in District committees and Action Plan groups. 
  • May also be required to notarize documents for the District. 
  • Knowledge of and a thorough understanding of Carbon Valley Parks and Recreation District policies and procedures.

Required qualifications:

  • Completed an associate's level coursework in accounting and/or an equivalent combination of related education and experience. 
  • Two years of accounting experience
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in government accounting 
  • Proficient technology skills including advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • CPR, AED, first aid certification, or the ability to become certified within the first 90 days of employment
  • Notary certification or the ability to become a notary within 90 days

Physical Demands, Job Location, Equipment Ulilized:

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Duties are performed with minimal supervision in a general office environment. Most duties are performed with typical office equipment during typical District operating hours. 
  • Some duties within this position may require some physical strength and ability. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle, feel, or finger; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear.
