Senior Director - Demand Planning
Job Description
The Senior Director of Demand Planning is a cross-functional leader responsible for optimizing inventory investment and driving demand accuracy to unlock financial value. This role sits at the intersection of Finance, Merchandising, and Operations, ensuring that planning decisions support revenue growth, margin expansion, and inventory efficiency.
The role includes ownership of forecasting, Open-to-Buy governance, lifecycle transitions, and strategic recommendations related to pricing and product transitions.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of accurate demand forecasting across all product categories, channels, and time horizons, driving continuous improvements through data analytics and close stakeholder collaboration.
- Own and evolve the demand planning process to ensure alignment with Finance, Merchandising, and overall business strategies.
- Manage end-to-end inventory planning, from initial purchase through SKU lifecycle management, balancing revenue, margin, and inventory health objectives.
- Partner with Merchandising to plan SKU transitions, lifecycle exits, replenishment triggers, and coordinate markdowns or pricing actions to maintain optimal inventory turns.
- Provide Finance with data-driven recommendations on inventory investments, ensuring discipline in Open-to-Buy (OTB) and maximizing ROI.
- Serve as the business partner to Finance for budgeting, margin forecasting (incorporating unit economics, pricing, and promotions), and scenario planning.
- Support major inventory purchase approvals by developing strong business cases grounded in forecast logic and financial impact analysis.
- Collaborate closely with Merchandising, Pricing, and Marketing teams to influence demand through assortment planning, promotional initiatives, price adjustments, and other tactics.
- Drive the monthly Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process, presenting forecast updates and inventory health metrics to senior leadership.
- Lead the deployment and continuous improvement of planning systems and analytics dashboards, establishing KPIs to measure forecast accuracy, inventory performance, and margin contribution.
- Build and lead a high-performing team of planners and analysts, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and strategic thinking, while developing talent pipelines to support business growth.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Supply Chain, or related field; MBA preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in demand planning, inventory management, or financial planning roles, with 5+ years in a leadership position.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to connect inventory decisions to financial outcomes.
- Experience partnering with cross-functional teams including Finance, Merchandising, and Pricing.
- Advanced skills in Excel, planning systems (e.g., Anaplan, SAP IBP), and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
- Exceptional communication and executive presence.

Annual base pay: $170,000 - $210,000. Final pay rate shall be determined and is based on experience and qualifications.
