This Opportunity
WSP has an opening for a Public Information Specialist to work in the Florida Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) offices in Ocoee or Pompano Beach, Florida. The position will support, assist and offer guidance to the program in public involvement, public information, outreach and communications. The selected candidate will also join a talented group of other WSP communications professionals supporting the Turnpike program.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our national team of talented communications and public involvement professionals. As part of WSP’s Communications Advisory Services Practice, you may work on a wide range of infrastructure projects. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to expand their skillset and experience in public outreach, project coordination, public involvement, business development and communication techniques.
Your Impact
- Answer the 800 public outreach line
- Responds to general customer inquiries – via phone, writing and in-person from various internal and external customers
- Monitor appropriate email addresses
- Review and edits news releases, brochures, fact sheets, media alerts and other collaterals for the public and media
- Support social media campaigns and outreach efforts
- Respond to inquiries related to calls from the public for maintenance issues
- Generate Monthly Events Calendar
- Maintain general and maintenance inquiry logs
- Maintain office file and records
- Support Communications personnel with outreach requirements
- Attend and promotes public meetings/hearings, public information and construction workshop
- Assist in the coordination and implementation of special events involving the department such as ribbon cuttings, groundbreakings and special announcements
- Assist in writing and disseminating information for local and statewide education/safety programs and other transportation information
- Perform other duties as assigned or required by WSP USA Inc. and our clients
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- 2-3 years of relevant experience
- Must have outstanding oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Must work effectively with teams and demonstrate initiative
- Superior organizational and creative skills
- Work experience in public information and communication for transportation, design or construction projects
- High attention to detail
- Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft office - Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Ability to work well with the public and interact effectively with all organizational levels, including senior management
- Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to exercise a high level of discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Candidate must be able to immediately work in the United States on a full time permanent basis.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on Florida Department of Transportation projects
- Public involvement training from Florida Department of Transportation
- Local candidates preferred
- Bilingual (Spanish and English) communications/translations
- Graphic design experience (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Snagit, Canva, etc.)
- Ability to work with stock images and deliver creative content (text, photo and video)
- Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field
