POSITION PURPOSE
Reporting to the Director of Client Services, the Client Services Consultant provides desktop hardware and computing support, network printer repair and installation, and general assistance to all technology users on campus. This position collaborates closely with IT colleagues to maintain an information technology environment that supports the goals of Whitman College and meets the evolving needs of faculty, staff, and students.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Technology Support & Service (50%)
- Perform service calls, including configuring, delivering, and installing computers and other peripherals.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with desktop and laptop computers.
- Support classroom and lab technology.
- Consult with staff and faculty on the use of computer hardware and software.
Hardware & Printer Maintenance (40%)
- Resolve problems, perform maintenance, and repair networked printers across the institution.
- Resolve problems, perform maintenance, and repair laptop and desktop hardware issues for Whitman-owned computers.
Project Participation & System Improvement (5%)
- Participate in endpoint management projects to continue efforts in building an environment of greater efficiencies through automation and feature development.
Additional Duties (5%)
- Perform other essential duties and assist with the implementation of projects as needed and when bandwidth is available.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Must be able to explain and/or demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Specifically,
- Advanced operational knowledge of Mac and Windows computers and other peripheral devices.
- Knowledge of general computer and network printer hardware repair.
- Knowledge of standalone and networked computer applications' installation.
- Knowledge of common application software, such as Microsoft Office applications, email, web browsers.
- Strong problem solving techniques and ability to read and interpret service manuals.
- Ability to consult with users on various software, hardware, and network problems.
- Familiarity with enterprise-level network printer functions, troubleshooting, and repair & maintenance.
- Strong commitment to customer service to provide timely, attentive care ensuring needs are met in a manner that reflects positively on the college and Technology Services department.
- Strong team orientation.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills enabling the establishment of cooperative and collaborative working relationships with a variety of campus constituencies.
- The ability to positively and actively contribute to Whitman College's core values of diversity, equity, inclusions, antiracism, and access.
- Ability to make technical issues understandable.
- Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends.
- Ability to perform manual labor, including moving items up to 30 lbs. regularly for a short distance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 1+ years of experience providing computer user support in a networked computing environment.
- Experience working with and supporting Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems.
- Ability to obtain CompTIA A+ certification within the first year of employment.
- Ability to obtain Dell & Apple hardware repair certifications
- OR a combination of relevant education, training, and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience.
- Experience working in user services in higher education.
- Experience working on an IT Help Desk.
- CompTIA A+ certification.
- Experience and/or an interest in supervising an IT Help Desk and student staff.
- Experience and/or an interest in creating a hardware repair program with student staff assistants.
