Summary of Job Duties:
The Arkansas Rural Community Health (ARCH) Study is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow in environmental epidemiology, with special emphasis on large cohort studies in cancer research. The fellow will be expected to participate in new and ongoing research projects for the ARCH study, including cohort data synchronization, data and survey data cleaning and analysis, dataset creation and management, manuscript writings for peer-reviewed publications, and submit grant proposals. The Fellow will also assist the Principal Investigator on literature reviews, manuscripts (e.g., journal articles, abstracts, book chapters), grant proposals and promotional and educational material (e.g., annual research reports, general information articles). A doctoral degree in Epidemiology (or a related field) from an accredited university is required. Proficiency in data analysis using data software is required (e.g., SAS, STATA, R, etc.).
Qualifications:
Doctorate degree in Epidemiology (or related field) from an accredited university by the start date required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Able to work independently; highly motivated; ability to think through a logical sequence of necessary events. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills in English.
Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities. Ability to work with multiple researchers, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds in a collegial and professional manner.
Experience in the development of reports, graphs, charts, and other visuals required.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Focus on environmental epidemiology and cancer research
Excellent skills in data analysis, database management, and computer programming (e.g., SAS, STATA, R software, etc.).

Responsibilities:
Serves as a member of the Study Management Team, working directly with co-investigators, in relation to daily research and administrative operations.
Develops and initiates work plans and timelines to fulfill study requirements.
Provides updates and status reports to the Principal Investigator (PI) regularly.
Participates in cooperative activities with funding agencies and other funded sites, including participation in conference calls and meetings to enhance developmental aspects of the study protocol and dissemination of data.
Creates and manages large cohort datasets.
Serves as liaison and coordinates interaction between participating laboratories, data managers, data analysts, and bioinformatics professionals involved in the projects.
Identifies barriers, explores solutions, proposes and implements solutions while engaging the appropriate stakeholder(s).
Establishes and fosters collaborative relationships with stakeholders interested in cohort research locally and nationally to ensure ample and effective communication, resulting in scientific products.
Resolves research issues and questions of methodology, analysis, and interpretation.
Promotes and facilitates research activities among investigators.
Participates in routine group meetings to discuss progress and timeliness and to resolve issues.
Assist with the preparation of standard operating procedures to facilitate compliance with all institutional and governmental policies and regulations.
Supervises study support staff as needed. Perform other tasks as necessary to meet project responsibilities.
Conducts literature searches, reviews research findings.
Appraises biomedical literature to identify gaps in current knowledge and to describe and evaluate new methodologies and new research discoveries.
Maintains a reference database with relevant scientific literature pertaining to reproductive and perinatal epidemiology and relevant research, and new scientific discoveries.
Assists PI with literature reviews, manuscripts (e.g., journal articles, abstracts, book chapters), grant submissions, and promotional and educational material (e.g., annual research reports, general information articles) by providing writing, editing, minor revisions, and formatting.
Assists PI/mentor, co-Investigators with the preparation of manuscripts and PowerPoint presentations,
Prepares manuscripts from their own empiric research for submission to peer-reviewed journals (a minimum of two first-author manuscripts per year).
Prepares abstracts for submission to scientific conferences for presentation. Should present their research at a minimum of one conference per year.
Assists PI/mentor, co-Investigators with the preparation of grant proposals, as needed.
Must submit at least one grant proposal to an extramural agency before the end of the fellowship.
Attends seminars, grand rounds, and other seminars,
Participates in group meetings.
Attends workshops, conferences, and other trainings in cancer research, cohort studies, environmental epidemiology, or advanced methods in epidemiology as available.
Participates in directed research activities, mentoring, and other training opportunities as available.
Performs other duties as assigned.
