Sophia Learning (part of Strategic Education, Inc.) is an industry-leading provider of low-cost, self-paced college courses for transfer credit. Our aim is to help students save time and money toward their degree.

Sophia is seeking a temporary strategy manager to help the team build and execute upon their transferability strategy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities

  • Serve as ‘right hand’ to ETS Chief Product Officer, who oversees product and strategy for the ETS division
  • Build and own Sophia’s transferability strategy (inclusive of analysis and beginning to drive execution)
  • Drive forward a series of strategic initiatives (primarily within Sophia but may extend across other aspects of ETS)

Secondary responsibilities

  • Establish clear business cases for growth opportunities with rationale for strategic investments by assessing marketing potential, customer needs, competitive landscape, and other relevant considerations
  • Partner with Sophia CEO on ad hoc strategic questions
  • Create processes opportunistically that make the organization more structurally sound
  • Coordinate work across cross-functional teams to ensure project objectives are achieved and timelines are met (for strategic initiatives); conduct research, financial modeling, data gathering and analysis
  • Stay up to date on market and competitive intelligence by conducting market research, competitive benchmarking, and synthesizing findings into actionable insights
  • Crack complex problems and questions that weigh on the organization

  • Knack for taking something that is ambiguous, putting some structure around it, and making meaning of it for the organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to influence at all levels in the organization
  • Ability to drive impactful work forward independently
  • Pragmatic and practical – can focus on what really matters without getting distracted by noise, is realistic, and can look around corners to get ahead of future outcomes
  • Advanced PowerPoint skills
  • Advanced data analysis skills

Work Experience:

  •  6-8 years of top tier management consulting experience / other relevant experience

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or other relevant field.

Other:

  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Typical office setting.
  • Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor.
  • Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job.
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant.
  • Access information using a computer.
  • Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain.
  • Effectively cope with stressful situations.
  • Strong mental acuity.
  • Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.
