About the Role

As Head of Data, you’ll shape how we use data to make decisions, measure progress, and build better experiences for our users and community. You’ll work closely with teams across the company—product, engineering, growth, finance, ecosystem—to make sure we’re not just collecting data, but actually using it to drive impact.

This is a high-impact role for a leader who thrives in a fast-paced, web3-native environment and understands how to scale data functions in a rapidly evolving market.

Responsibilities

• Drive strategic impact: Define what great looks like when it comes to data at Sky Mavis—how we use it, structure it, and rely on it.

• Build the foundation: Architect and scale our data infrastructure: ingestion, pipelines, dashboards, and everything in between.

• Make it useful: Help teams find the right metrics, answer tough questions, and act on what they learn.

• Lead cross-functional collaboration: Partner with product, engineering, and growth teams to embed data into decision-making and align initiatives with business priorities.

• Lead the culture: Develop shared definitions, documentation, and rituals that gradually foster a more data-informed culture across the company.

• Hire and grow the team: Build a small, sharp data team, scale with clarity and confidence.

• Be a strategic partner: Work directly with the CEO and leadership team to influence key company priorities and strategies.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data science, analytics, and business intelligence with at least 3+ years leading high-performing data teams.

• Experience building or scaling data teams, ideally in fast-moving product or tech start-up companies.

• Comfortable diving into the details—writing SQL, modeling data, and reviewing dashboards.

• Ability to navigate ambiguity, synthesize complex data, and create clear, actionable strategies that drive business results.

• Strong communicator and active listener, capable of building trust across diverse teams.

• Driven by impact, focus on solving meaningful problems and enabling teams to move faster and smarter.

• Bonus: curiosity about gaming, crypto, or how people behave in digital economies.

Pay Transparency Notice: The US base salary range for this role is between $190,000 - $230,000/year. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus and equity package. The individual pay is determined by role, work location, job-related skills, level, experience, and relevant education. The range displayed is the minimum and maximum target base salary and is applicable only for new hires for the listed position located in the US.
