Job Description

Our East Syracuse, NY laboratory is looking for a Chemist to join their GCMS team!  The Laboratory Chemist’s primary responsibilities are continuous technical improvement to ensure that new and existing methodologies are meeting market requirements through routine review and development of existing procedures.  This will ensure improvement of quality, efficiency, and productivity.  The Laboratory Chemist provides technical direction to client services and laboratory management, takes on specific assigned projects, and mentors laboratory personnel.

Job functions:

  • Performs analyses on samples of all levels of complexity, according to SGS’ analytical SOPs, using instrumentation specific to the department and analytical methodologies.
  • Troubleshoots laboratory instruments and equipment, working with vendors and service technicians, as needed.
  • Develops and validates analytical methods, SOPs and other operating, safety and quality documents for method development, transfer and validation studies.
  • Works with department supervisors to continuously improve laboratory technical capabilities and services.
  • Provides technical direction to lab management, business development, and client services.
  • Maintains laboratory instrumentation and follows preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Develops training programs and researches novel technologies.
  • Provides leadership and training to laboratory personnel to continuously improve quality control, quality assurance, laboratory services and customer satisfaction.
  • May be assigned special or related ad-hoc projects from time-to-time, within the company.
  • Provides mentorship to laboratory personnel.
  • Provides technical guidance and support to the Management team, as required for problems relating to current analytical methods.
  • Performs literature research and completes ongoing training to keep management informed of any changes in technology and methodology that may affect the business interests of the company, providing direction and assisting in decision making and implementation, as needed.
  • Evaluates new equipment and efficiency gains of any new method development.
  • Actively participates in training and development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or similar scientific discipline and 5 years of relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories (sample analysis) and 1+ year of method development and troubleshooting experience (Required)
  • 2+ years working with SGS (Preferred)
  • Strong language, mathematical, and reasoning skills (Required)
  • Strong computer skills (Required)

The hourly rate for this position is $30.00 per hour.  This position is eligible for overtime pay.

In addition, your compensation package includes the following benefits:
