Job Description Summary
This role will bring advanced technology and analytical skills to unlock new and deeper insights at Schnucks. As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of developing and deploying machine learning models and statistical analyses to solve key business challenges. You will drive insights into customer-focused action through communication and partnership with our strategic and tactical decision-makers. This role will deep-dive into our largest opportunities analytically, applying data science techniques across various business domains including Marketing, Operations, Finance, Supply Chain, etc. Key focus areas will include sales and gross profit optimization, customer analytics leveraging loyalty data, basket-level analysis, and enhancing operational efficiency. You will also establish data science best practices to be shared across the entire analytics team.
This role requires 4 days in office for up to 6 months to learn the role and then will be able to shift to 3 days a week in office and 2 days remote.
This role is located in St Louis, Missouri.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Conduct deep-dive analysis evaluating strategic effectiveness around sales, gross profit, customers, baskets, and operations using advanced statistical methods.
Design, build, and deploy robust machine learning models to address business needs. This includes utilizing techniques such as Random Forest, XGBoost, and other gradient boosting methods for prediction and classification tasks.
Develop and implement statistical models, including various regression techniques (Linear, Logistic, etc.), to understand and quantify the drivers of key business outcomes.
Manage the full data science project lifecycle from conception and feature engineering to model validation, implementation, and monitoring.
Centralize, standardize, and automate key analytics and modeling functions currently spread across multiple teammates.
Translate complex model outputs and analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for business stakeholders.
Collaborate with business partners to design and analyze experiments (e.g., A/B tests) to measure the impact of strategic initiatives.
Develop and share analytics and data science best practices across the entire analyst team.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Education: Master’s Degree. Will accept Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics/Statistics plus equivalent experience.
Minimum Years of Experience: 3 to 5 years.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office, with advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Strong programming skills in Python or R for data manipulation, modeling, and analysis.
Proficiency with core data science and machine learning libraries (e.g., Scikit-learn, Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib).
Expert-level knowledge of SQL for querying complex datasets.
Demonstrated experience in applying deep statistical knowledge and building predictive models in a business context.
Experience with data visualization and BI tools such as Tableau or DOMO.
Functional knowledge of unstructured data sets, including how to access and consume them.
Ability to handle large datasets, identify key information, and provide insightful recommendations to all levels within the organization with minimal direction.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and form strong partnerships.
Strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment, and the ability to maintain composure and professionalism in all situations.
Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to "think outside the box."
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Generative AI, including the development and implementation of agent-based systems or leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) for business applications.
Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., GCP).
