Essential Function
Oversee an outsourced indirect tax team of 6 personnel and ensure timely filing and payment of all indirect tax liabilities while minimizing risk associated with indirect tax audits. Oversight/assist the indirect tax department administrative personnel.

Primary Duties

  • Oversee monthly sales and use tax compliance process including reconciliation with accounting system, tax rate testing and managing sales tax holidays process
  • Work directly with Sr Manager in managing sales tax audits and appeals
  • Assist with Property Tax Compliance process including review of returns support, tax bill approvals and managing audits
  • Assist with Business License Compliance process including review of renewal apps, payment support and providing guidance to outsourced team
  • Manage the purchase invoice review process to determine if non-taxed invoices require a use tax accrual. Requires audit of invoices to determine if taxes were paid, if not, why and do taxes need to be added and paid
  • Manage the Unclaimed Property Compliance process by working with various internal departments and our third-party compliance service provider
  • Work with outsourced team to modify existing or implement new policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with tax laws and achieve smooth business operation at the same time
  • Perform tax research and document tax positions
  • Assist with any tax department Ad Hoc projects when necessary

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • 5-8 years relevant tax experience required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to details.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Working Conditions /Physical Requirements

  • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, retail stores, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
  • The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, books, small parts; using a keyboard, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
