Virtual Math Teacher

Primer San Francisco Full-time
$60,000
per year

Job Description

About Primer

Fixing our K-12 education system is a civilizationally-important problem. We believe that all of our problems — including the ones that dominate the headlines — are downstream of education.

We have a simple thesis on how to solve it: empower 1,000's of educators to launch microschools in their communities.

We believe the historical tradeoff between price (tuition) and quality is a false dichotomy.

PrimerOS automates and eliminates much of the costs of traditional schools. Microschools have a structural advantage — asset-light real estate — which means much lower capex and opex. You put it together, and you get something that's never existed before: a world-class education that's accessible to normal American families and can rapidly scale.

A great educator makes all the difference

About the role

As a Virtual Math Content Teacher, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Virtual instruction. You'll teach approximately 6 classes per day, virtually, to cohorts of kids. You'll build strong relationships, establish routines and expectations, and create a culture that fosters students’ growth as independent learners.

  • Curriculum planning. You will adapt curriculum to deliver engaging and effective lessons in a virtual setting.

  • Data analysis. You'll collect and analyze student data to inform your planning and guide instructional decisions.

  • Mastery-based grading. By regularly documenting data, you'll give kids, families, and other teachers a clear window into a student's progress.

  • Collaboration. You will partner with our on-the-ground Primer Leaders to improve student outcomes.

About you

You are an expert in upper elementary and/or middle school math. You believe schools need to take kids seriously and you are excited to employ a new approach to school.

  • You have 5+ years of recent full-time experience teaching 3rd-9th grade math. A bachelor’s degree is required. Experience with US math standards and curricula required.

  • You love to build and adapt curriculum materials to meet your students’ needs. You enjoy differentiating content and developing instructional plans to support all students in meeting their academic goals.

  • You’re excited by a hybrid academic model that blends virtual instruction, learning software, and in-person support. You believe technology is a powerful tool for learning.

  • You have high expectations for student outcomes and a proven track record of driving student growth.

  • You are energized by a start-up environment and feel comfortable giving and receiving feedback. You embrace change and find the idea of iteration exciting.

  • This is a fully remote position, so you must have experience working with online tools such as Google Classroom and Zoom.

This is a full-time position with competitive salary & benefits.
