Pomelo Care United States Full-time
$160,000
per year

Job Description

About us

Pomelo Care is a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, engineers and problem solvers who are passionate about improving care for moms and babies. We are transforming outcomes for pregnant people and babies with evidence-based pregnancy and newborn care at scale. Our technology-driven care platform enables us to engage patients early, conduct individualized risk assessments for poor pregnancy outcomes, and deliver coordinated, personalized virtual care throughout pregnancy, NICU stays, and the first postpartum year. We measure ourselves by reductions in preterm births, NICU admissions, c-sections and maternal mortality; we improve outcomes and reduce healthcare spend.

Role Description

We are looking for a mid-level Sr. Manager, Compliance to join and support our Legal, Privacy & Compliance team in maintaining and strengthening our existing compliance program. Reporting to the Head of Legal, this role will help ensure our healthcare operations remain compliant with applicable state and federal regulations through ongoing risk assessments, audits and policy implementation. We are looking for someone collaborative and detail-oriented who can operationalize regulatory guidance, support cross-functional accountability and contribute to a strong culture of compliance in a fast-paced environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Operationalize healthcare regulatory guidance into actionable internal policies and procedures; draft, revise and maintain policies and procedures that reflect current regulatory requirements, operational realities and industry best practices.
  • Serve as a key compliance resource to teams across the organization, responding to compliance-related inquiries and providing clear, actionable guidance on how to apply internal policies and regulatory requirements in day-to-day operations. Review concerns, incidents and complaints; conduct root cause analyses and help define and track remediation steps to prevent recurrence.
  • Support the development, implementation and monitoring of compliance training materials; conduct training sessions as needed and help identify opportunities to reinforce policy adoption and awareness across teams.
  • Lead the development and execution of Pomelo’s annual compliance risk assessment and work plan; identify key areas of risk, propose mitigation strategies and collaborate with teams cross-functionally to implement and track corrective action plans.
  • Conduct and support retrospective and prospective internal audits and spot checks to identify potential gaps or areas of compliance vulnerability. Issue recommended corrective actions, guide the implementation of risk reduction strategies and monitor the effectiveness of remediation plans.
  • Support responses to internal and external audits, investigations, inquiries and routine compliance reporting, including gathering documentation, coordinating cross-functional input and tracking follow-up actions, with an understanding of how compliance activities support broader privacy and security frameworks (e.g., SOC2 and HITRUST).
  • Monitor and report on overall compliance program performance, surfacing trends, risks and opportunities for improvement. Provide clear, data-informed insights and recommendations to help shape program priorities and support strategic decision-making by leadership.
  • Contribute to the preparation and execution of quarterly Compliance Committee meetings, including developing pre-read materials, tracking open issues, and surfacing risk themes or emerging compliance trends for leadership discussion.
  • Support compliance considerations in product and operational development, partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure new initiatives, workflows or rollouts align with internal policy expectations.
  • Stay current on evolving healthcare regulations and digital health trends, contributing insights that help the compliance program adapt to a changing regulatory environment and support scalable growth.

Who You Are

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of experience in healthcare compliance (e.g., regulatory compliance, telehealth, privacy, supporting frameworks like SOC2 and HITRUST).
  • You have a professional compliance certification such as a Certification in Healthcare Compliance and experience managing others in a compliance setting.
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity and energized by building in a startup or growth-stage environment. You are not afraid to roll up your sleeves to iterate, troubleshoot and adapt as we scale.
  • You are collaborative and solutions-oriented, with a track record of being a thoughtful partner, especially when navigating complex or sensitive issues.
  • You are highly organized and execution-focused, with strong project management skills, able to manage competing priorities, and move work forward independently.
  • You are a clear communicator and active listener, skilled at translating compliance concepts into operational guidance and building trusted relationships across teams.

Bonus Points If

  • Experience working in a startup, Telehealth or digital health environment, especially one navigating growth or operational scale.
  • Exposure to or oversight of claims, billing or reimbursement compliance in a healthcare setting.

Why you should join our team

By joining Pomelo, you will get in on the ground floor for a fast-moving, well-funded and mission-driven startup where you will have a profound impact on the clinical team and overall business. It’s a chance to make a real difference in families’ lives.
