WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
In support of Planned Parenthood of Southern New England’s mission, the Grant Writer is responsible for soliciting and managing a grants portfolio of at least 100 foundations and prospects to meet the diverse financial goals of Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE). This is an exciting position for someone with a commitment to reproductive health looking to build professional relationships and practical skillsets within the non-profit communities in Connecticut and Rhode Island. Occasional nights and weekends are required to attend fundraising events or other informational events.
This position will focus on cultivating, stewarding and securing a portfolio of grants donors in CT and RI. With overall supervision from the Grants Manager, this position is ideal for a self-motivated, confident, collaborative individual with excellent writing, project management, and problem-solving skills. The Grant Writer will provide support in day-to-day fundraising initiatives and help secure and manage, with the Grants Manager, a portfolio of over $1.5 million in grants donors and collaborate with and provide information and proposal writing support to our Development Team.
\n- Hybrid/Remote – Will need to attend events in the CT and RI region, meet with donors in person, attend meetings periodically and work from the administrative office in New Haven, CT as needed to complete the ongoing activities of the department, team and position.
- Must be willing/able to complete a writing test as part of the application and hiring process
- Actively report to and solicit grants funders for PPSNE (c3), PPVotes! (c4) and/or PPVotes! PAC support through personal contact, reports or proposals, building ongoing and long-term relationships and encouraging funders in their portfolio to increase their giving.
- Sets goals, on an annual basis and in consultation with the Grants Manager, for the planned solicitations of funders in their portfolio to support PPSNE, PPVotes!CT, and PPVotes!CT PAC.
- Maintain reporting and submission deadlines through organization’s CRM (Salesforce NSPS).
- Collaborate with the Grants Manager on proposal submission, including research, writing, and editing.
- Assist with grant reporting, including narrative and financial reporting
- Conduct prospective research through external databases and RFP listings.
- Collaborate with program staff to gather information for grant proposals and reports.
- Do site visits and donor meetings to help secure funding support.
- Communicate with grant-making organizations as needed.
- Monitor grant deliverables in partnership with the Grants Manager and project leads.
- Work with the Senior Director of Development and Grants Manager in maintaining excellent data hygiene (maintaining accurate and up-to-date donor records and grant awards in Salesforce).
- Work closely with the development team to ensure alignment with fundraising goals.
- Demonstrate flexibility and teamwork; understand the interaction between this position and others with whom the position works directly and indirectly.
- Ensure all interactions incorporate PPSNE values of integrity, partnership, customer focus, communication and quality.
- Supports the organization’s mission and all of the reproductive health services offered including family planning services, health screenings, testing and treatment of STI's, birth control methods and abortion services.
- Support efforts of the organization’s diversity, equity and inclusion work to provide services that are culturally competent; take initiative to develop own awareness and knowledge of diversity equity and inclusion.
- Performs additional development-related activities/efforts at the request of their supervisor.
- Completes all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies and standard practices in the areas of customer service, quality assurance and regulatory compliance programs
- Passionate commitment to the mission, services, vision, and values of PPSNE and the ability to communicate it to others.
- 2+ years of work experience, preferably in a development office or other functional area of a non-profit organization or university strongly preferred
- Well-developed writing practice; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals
- Excellent communication skills and keen attention to detail
- Driven to create and achieve financial and fundraising goals, while maintaining the flexibility to adjust goals to meet the needs of the organization.
- Must have the flexibility to travel, have current driver’s license and access to reliable transportation, and work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Proven ability to build deep and lasting relationships with a variety of internal partners, with whom no direct line supervision exists, as well as external individuals, from funders to board members.
- Commitment to a culture of feedback.
- Strong time management and organizational skills required.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information.
- Familiarity with 501(c)(4) and PAC fundraising and regulations is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, liberal arts, or related field. Comparable experience may be considered.
