Job Description
Scope
Lead studies of disease burden, vaccine impact, and vaccine effectiveness in support of asset strategies in Asian and Pacific geographies, including Japan. Must be a subject matter expert in infectious disease epidemiology and RWE, and strategic thought partner for product-specific core meetings (Global Medical Asset Teams (GMAT), etc). This role is accountable for the quality, timeliness, and efficiency for all RWE/Epi deliverables in assigned product/disease area. This person is expected to maintain an internal network of Pfizer stakeholders to cultivate innovation, cross-functional collaboration, and identify new opportunities for RWE/Epi to increase the value of Pfizer assets. Person will be NIS Study Lead, or the equivalent, for studies in their area. They will author and review study protocols, reports, and presentations, and are responsible for communications in writing and in presentations to internal stakeholders, regulatory authorities, medical professionals and others. The RWE/Epi Scientist will be responsible for non-study deliverables as well (e.g., RWE insights, epidemiology literature reviews, regulatory responses, and department initiatives). Focus on disease burden and post licensure data generation in Japan, Latin America, Europe and other countries, including LMICs.
Capabilities
•Design, lead, and execute real-world post-licensure studies of disease epidemiology and vaccine effectiveness, including primary and secondary data studies, as part of cross-functional Integrated Evidence Plans.
•Skill and experience with field epidemiology, complex data analyses, managing scientific aspects of complicated long-term projects, interacting with world experts on disease, immunization, and vaccines, and experience operating in varied cultural settings.
•Partner with MEG Asset Leads to ensure strategic SME input provided to IEPs through Global Medical Affairs Teams.
•Partner with CMO colleagues (MEG, MEQ, DS&A, etc.) to address asset team evidence needs and support regulatory submissions to the FDA, EMA and other agencies globally.
•Oversee the execution of rapid RWD-based queries and insights; effectively communicate the findings and study results to internal stakeholders
•Respond to scientific/regulatory questions related to vaccine commercial, regulatory, and policy issues.
•Prepare clinical study reports, and present /publish results of epidemiological studies at scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed journals
•Participate in RWE/Epi peer review of study protocols and study reports
Qualifications:
·PhD in infectious disease epidemiology or vaccinology or closely related field with at least 3 years of experience in infectious disease, (ideally vaccine- or vaccine-preventable disease) related scientific activities including research, clinical development, applied epidemiology, and immunization programs
·Expertise designing and implementing field-based epidemiology studies such as prospective infectious disease surveillance studies and assessments of real-world vaccine effectiveness ideally in both high resource settings and LMICs, and in diverse populations.
·Fluent in Japanese and willing to be based in Japan.
Experience working in or with multilateral global health organizations (e.g. WHO, UNICEF, Gates Foundation)
Experience interacting with local and national Japanese governments.
·Strong technical expertise, analytic ability, creative problem-solving, and communication skills.
·Experience directing analyses of real-world data.
·Experience operating within large cross-functional matrices and collaborating with multiple partners.
·Demonstrated effectiveness as a strategic partner to key internal stakeholders.
·Knowledgeable of the external regulatoryenvironment for real-world evidence and maintains awareness of scientific developments in epidemiology, medicine, and technology (e.g., artificial intelligence).
·Knowledge of immunization programs/experts at international agencies relevant to global immunization including CDC, BMGF, PATH, Gavi, WHO, or UNICEF and engaging with country-based collaborators and stakeholders in high-, middle- and lower-income settings.
