This position is Hybrid Remote Work. The duties of this position are performed remotely as well as at our central office in Salem.  In addition, the ability to report to Salem is required when business or operational needs are dependent on onsite activities.

What we are looking for:

As the Forest Resource Analyst you will provide data analysis, technical assistance, and project management within the State Forests Division. Duties include:

  • Analyze data and use a variety of analytical techniques and models to provide needed supporting information and analysis related to operational and policy issues associated with the forest management plans.
  • Responsible for maintaining and improving the program’s planning models and other analysis tools related to short-and long-term harvest scheduling and growth modeling.
  • Report on the results of data analysis to a diverse audience of organizations.
  • Lead technical analysis teams within the unit, and may review the work of team members.
  • Recommend scope, contacts, procedures, and methods on specific technical projects.
  • Monitor progress on projects to ensure timelines are met and there is compliance with state and agency rules.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of experience in Forestry. At least one year of the experience must be at a technical or professional level performing activities in a natural resource program such as conducting research and analysis, collecting and interpreting forest inventory and monitoring data, silviculture, forest estate planning, spatial analysis, or coordinating and monitoring project activities.

AND

A bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources, GIS, or related degree.

OR

Three additional years of related (pertinent) experience.

*A master's degree in Forestry will substitute for up to one year of the required experience.
*A Doctorate degree in Forestry will substitute for up to two years of the required experience.

Note:  Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout.  If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.

Desired Skills:

  • Requires a combination of a high level of technical knowledge, good analytical skills, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Successful accomplishment of the duties of the Forest Resource Analyst position requires thorough familiarity with the State Forests Division and detailed technical knowledge of multiple aspects of forest land management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting. Good team player skills are necessary, including the willingness to collaborate, share information, and contribute to the team’s success as necessary. Ability to demonstrate initiative and independent judgement on an ongoing basis
  • Ability to contribute to a positive, respectful, and productive work environment.
  • Experience with various forest inventory sampling methods and procedures, growth and yield modeling, forest harvest scheduling, complex database management, and forest economic analysis. Experience using GIS for analytical purposes and experience using statistical analysis (e.g. hypotheses testing, confidence intervals, ANOVA, etc.)
  • Experience using common computer programming languages (Python, R, JavaScript,  batch, etc.) and associated technologies (SQL, HTML) commonly used for statistical analysis, data processing, and GIS geoprocessing and analysis, database management, data formatting and conversion, text processing, as well as for automation, communication, reporting, and integration of third party applications with Microsoft applications and database systems.
