Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems offers an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Engineer Systems – Global SE Interface Engineer (25-241) to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL.

Relocation Assistance is not available for this position, and this role is on-site with no remote options.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It serves as a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defense operations systematically, visualize the evolving battlefield, and dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that ensures an optimized response to threats of all ranges throughout all phases of flight. C2BMC acts as a force multiplier, globally and regionally integrating and synchronizing autonomous sensors and weapon systems to enhance performance. C2BMC is essential for all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise the current and future capabilities of the missile defense system.

The C2BMC-G Interface Engineer will join a small team of Interface Engineers responsible for developing ICDs and IDDs. This includes establishing new interfaces between external elements, such as space and terrestrial sensors. The Interface Engineer will collaborate with leadership to address any issues and challenges that arise. They will ensure that the developed ICDs and IDDs meet the program's standards. The Interface Lead is expected to create various behavioral diagrams to understand and document the requirements, which will aid in generating the ICDs/IDDs. The Interface Engineer will define requirements and capture them in DOORS with sufficient detail to provide a clear understanding for the implementation teams. Furthermore, the Interface Engineer will create behavioral diagrams to grasp the requirements and functionality of the interface.

Essential Functions:

  • The successful candidate must have at least 5 years of professional experience in Systems Engineering or a related field
  • Must have significant experience in creating ICDs and IDDs that adhere to DID requirements and fulfill DoD standards
  • Must be able to work as part of an experienced team to develop systems engineering products and artifacts while adhering to the program Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) and other processes
  • Develop and update multiple Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents
  • Will participate in the interface working group meetings with the MDA customer and representatives from the assigned external element engineering organization
  • Additionally, will provide support for program integration and test-related efforts regarding the associated interface
  • Will also support other interface engineers in developing ICDs for additional BMDS elements and assist with requirements engineering, use case development, and logical architecture modeling tasks as required by the SE department
  • Will support Spiral Leadership to ensure the completion of interface artifacts and system assessment tasks required for the assigned sensor interface
  • This role will be assigned to the C2BMC-G Systems Engineering Team within SEIT
  • The Interface Engineer is a Systems Engineer and may, at times, be called upon to assist with non-interface systems engineering activities
