POSITION SUMMARY: As a Weld Design Engineer, you will support the completion of structural and weld design tasks from concept through to production. Your expertise in welding standards, calculations, and computer-aided design (CAD) will directly contribute to our industry-leading transit solutions. Your engineering skills will be an asset to our organization where teamwork, safety, and integrity are valued.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Design welded bus structures that meet customer specifications, technical summaries, and manufacturing capabilities
  • Execute calculations and analyses to ensure compliance with design standards and applicable regulations
  • Generate and release engineering drawings and bills of materials (BOMs) in accordance with internal procedures
  • Coordinate projects with internal teams, vendors, and stakeholders to meet deadlines and quality standards
  • Conduct or oversee testing to verify component fit, functionality, and reliability
  • Provide technical support to production, quality assurance, and customer service teams
  • Review and approve design documents, instructions, and floor instructions as authorized
  • Maintain project documentation and track progress in engineering systems
  • Interpret Finite Element Analysis (FEA) reports to support design decisions
  • Engage with suppliers and customers to validate design implementations

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng), preferably with a focus in welding or structural design
  • Minimum 4 years of design release experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Certification from the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB)
  • Proficient with Siemens NX (a 3D CAD software) and Teamcenter (a product lifecycle management system)
  • Ability to interpret and apply Finite Element Analysis (FEA) data
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to perform occasional site visits (minimal travel required)
