Library Project Manager to lead a team of cataloging librarians and paraprofessionals in a large-scale project to review and enhance bibliographic records in a significant research library’s collection. This project focuses on identifying and updating materials that lack full-level cataloging, ensuring compliance with national and international cataloging standards such as RDA, MARC21, LCSH, Library of Congress Classification (LCC), and Superintendent of Documents Classification (SuDoc). This is a full-time benefit position. The position requires on-site work in Richmond, VA.
- Develop and manage the overall project plan, timelines, and deliverables.
- Lead a team of professional catalogers and technicians to ensure consistent, high-quality metadata production.
- Establish workflows and procedures to efficiently review, identify, and enhance incomplete or minimal-level catalog records.
- Monitor progress and adjust plans as needed to ensure project milestones are met.
- Oversee the review and creation of full-level MARC bibliographic records for various materials, including monographs, serials, government documents, and special formats.
- Ensure cataloging is performed in compliance with Resource Description and Access (RDA), MARC21, Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), Library of Congress Classification (LCC), and SuDoc standards.
- Serve as the primary point of quality assurance for bibliographic accuracy and consistency.
- Provide supervision, training, and ongoing support to cataloging librarians and technicians.
- Conduct regular team meetings and communicate with stakeholders regarding project status and challenges.
- Review staff work to ensure standards compliance and provide corrective feedback as needed.
- Liaise with library staff about workflows, quality control, and production
- Compile regular progress reports, identifying risks, issues, and recommendations for continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited institution
- At least 5 years of cataloging experience using RDA, MARC21, LCSH, LCC, and SuDoc.
- Demonstrated supervisory or project management experience within a library setting.
- Deep knowledge of bibliographic and authority record creation and maintenance.
- Proficiency with integrated library systems (e.g., Alma, Voyager, Sierra) and cataloging utilities (e.g., OCLC Connexion).
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Experience managing large-scale cataloging or metadata remediation projects.
- Familiarity with government document cataloging and classification schemes.
- Certification or coursework in project management (e.g., PMP, Agile, PRINCE2).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
- Occasionally lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds such as files, books, and other materials.
