Job Description

Under the direction of the Deputy Chief of Professional Learning, the Managing Director of Professional Learning & Instructional Talent Development drives the execution of KIPP Texas’s professional learning
strategy to achieve excellent and equitable student outcomes with a focus on teachers and instructional leadership. This leader ensures all Big KIPPsters are equipped to deliver on our promise to families through responsive, data-informed development that enhances teaching and instructional practice across our schools.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
Lead the KIPP TX Approach to Professional Learning
● Implement a statewide vision for professional learning that drives student achievement and supports academic excellence.
● Align professional learning to KIPP Texas’s strategic priorities and academic goals in partnership with the Deputy Chief of Professional Learning and Chief Academic Officer.
● Serve as a key thought partner to Academics, School Management, and Operational leaders to ensure alignment and coherence across professional learning initiatives.
● Build systems for quality assurance such that all Academics-designed professional learning is designed according to best practices for adult learning.
● Drive excellence in professional learning logistics to ensure that the focus of formal learning is on content delivery and mastery.

● Ensure quality facilitation of professional learning by creating and executing Train the Trainer and feedback systems across the Academics team.
● Lead the strategy for asynchronous learning that supports mid-year instructional hires.

Drive Teacher and Instructional Leadership across KIPP TX
● Design and lead a comprehensive professional learning strategy for teachers and instructional leaders that leads to KIPP Texas meeting its organizational goals.
● Develop tiered learning experiences that increase in-role proficiency for instructional leaders in the areas of Teacher Quality, Leader of Assessment, and Leader of Content both at the formal learning level and in-field, as aligned to the 70/20/10 learning model.
● Ensure all development is anchored in the Framework for Effective Teaching and contributes to:
● 85% of participants agreeing learning supported their growth aligned to the KIPP Texas Framework for Effective Teaching
● 70% of Critical Need Teachers earning Effective+ on priority indicators

Lead a high-performing team to deliver transformational educational outcomes for students
● Manage and coach a team of leaders to implement cohesive professional learning across regions with quality and scale.
● Build a culture of inclusion, innovation, and accountability within the department. Set and monitor clear outcomes, holding self and team accountable to progress and impact at the teacher, leader, and student levels
● Oversee the operational execution of the team, ensuring efficiency, clarity, and alignment with
strategic goals.

Lead Data-Driven Strategy for Professional Learning
● Use real-time and longitudinal data to inform priorities, differentiate support, and intervene with additional development when necessary.
● Partner with Academics, School Management, Talent, and Operations to deliver timely, relevant, and high-impact learning experiences.
● Monitor effectiveness of professional learning through progress tracking and impact metrics that are tied directly to excellent implementation of the Teacher Quality system and student outcomes.

Serve as an Academics Team Senior Leader
● Act as the primary liaison for professional learning within the Academics team and across other
departments.
● Build cross-functional partnerships and coalitions to advance organizational goals through
strategic professional learning.
● Ensure decisions and investments in professional learning center the needs of little KIPPsters
and drive student achievement.

Qualifications

Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree, relevant Master’s degree in Education preferred.
● 10+ years of experience working in K-12 public education.

● 7+ years of people management experience, including 5 years of systems-level or executive leadership experience.
● Experience leading K-12 public schools or supporting K-12 public schools in academic excellence.
● Demonstrated record of delivering excellence.

● Deep knowledge of instructional best practices, content, and pedagogy;
● Exceptional ability to translate instructional expertise into practice; strong coach and people manager;
● Compelling oral and written communication to a wide variety of internal and external audiences;
● Exceptional strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands and solve complex problems;

Work Environment
● Hybrid work - in office/at schools a minimum of 3 days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays..
