Kemper, a publicly-traded, multi-billion dollar insurance and financial services company, seeks a talented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our (segment) Accounting team at our headquarters in downtown Chicago. This is a fantastic role for a strong performer who is looking to greatly expand their knowledge of ledgers, consolidation, and financial reporting within a multi-faceted insurance company (P&C, life, health) that has exposure to SEC, GAAP, and statutory accounting. Kemper has a proven track record for developing its people for higher roles within the department as well as other functions and across its operating entities. We seek a detail-oriented professional to assist with a wide range of monthly, quarterly and annual accounting functions associated with Kemper’s financial reporting

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Preparing monthly journal entries for the corporate general ledger

· Preparing general ledger reconciliations

· Preparing and analyzing management reports

· Creating and performing ad hoc queries and analyses

· Support the consolidation and reporting functions

· Creating and performing ad hoc queries and analytics upon request

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

· BA/BS degree in Accounting

· CPA or CPA candidate a plus

· 1-2 years’ experience in a corporate or general accounting role
