Job Description

The Vice President, Chief Internal Auditor will serve as a strategic advisor to the CFO and executive leadership, overseeing the global internal audit function across all Fortune Brands Innovations operations. This executive will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive, risk-based audit strategy aligned with the company’s strategic objectives, regulatory requirements, and operational priorities.

This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, operational efficiency, and compliance with internal controls and external regulations. This individual will lead a high-performing team, foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, and serve as a key liaison to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.

Position location: Deerfield, IL - Hybrid schedule

What You Will Do:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute a long-term vision for the internal audit function aligned with enterprise risk management and corporate strategy.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CFO, executive leadership, and the Audit Committee on risk, controls, and governance matters.
  • Set and lead the annual enterprise risk assessment and audit planning process.

Audit Oversight

  • Oversee the execution of financial, operational, compliance, and IT audits across global operations.
  • Ensure timely and high-quality reporting of audit findings, risk insights, and remediation progress to executive leadership and the Audit Committee.
  • Monitor and enhance the effectiveness of internal controls, including SOX compliance and FCPA-related processes.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a global team of audit professionals, fostering a high-performance and inclusive culture.
  • Oversee talent acquisition, succession planning, and professional development within the audit function.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with business leaders, external auditors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to drive process improvements and operational efficiencies.

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to IIA standards, COSO framework, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provide oversight of third-party audit resources and consultants.

    Qualifications

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
    • 12+ years of progressive experience in internal audit, public accounting (Big Four preferred), or risk advisory.
    • 5+ years of executive or senior leadership experience managing audit teams in a global, matrixed organization.
    • Deep knowledge of US GAAP, SOX, COSO, and internal control frameworks.
    • Proven ability to influence at the executive and board level.
    • Willingness to travel up to 30% (domestic and international).

    Preferred Qualifications

    • CPA, CIA, or CISA certification strongly preferred.
    • Experience in manufacturing or consumer goods industries.
    • Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle.
    • Exposure to IT audit and data analytics tools.

    Additional Information

    Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $270,000 USD - $330,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
