Job Description
Why Your Job is Important: As a subject matter expert in compliance, the Export Compliance Specialist assists in ensuring that the company meets its obligation to comply with all Company policies and all applicable laws and regulations.
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with the EAR, ITAR, OFAC and other regulatory requirements applicable to the transactions handled by the operations teams of the district
- Ensure compliance with TSA regulations
Training
- Support the facilitation of the Customs Export Compliance Specialist (CECS) certification program
- Prepare and hold training sessions on a regular basis for export and other products
- Publish Compliance Tips based on:
- Issues discovered during daily EDMA and monthly GATES reviews
- Problems discovered during periodic team and leadership outreaches
- Regulatory changes
- Specific customer/market needs
- Ensure that district employees are kept current on regulatory developments
- Monitor TSA compliance training for the district and ensure staff are completing their training in a timely manner
- Maintain Dangerous Goods certifications
- Assist export personnel with compliance-related questions and issues
Recordkeeping
- Ensure POAs received are completed properly, updated appropriately in CLIENT, and uploaded in the POA Tool
- Ensure customer instructions are disseminated and stored for future reference
Penalties and Liquidated Damages
- Report all penalties and liquidated damages to U.S. Export Compliance Manager
Sales/Marketing
- Support sales, account management and product leaders with new business development, as needed
- Assist with transitioning new business, as needed
Other Products
- Provide support and assistance to other products in the district to ensure their compliance with regulations and company policies and procedures. This will be under the direction of the DCM as the DCM sees fit.
Other tasks and duties as deemed appropriate by management
Please note that this role cross trains and/or rotates with Import Compliance Specialist to ensure coverage of the compliance team.
Qualifications
- High School Degree or equivalent required
- Passed background check
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Good computer skills (Word, Excel, and familiarity with PowerPoint)
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must not require future sponsorship for employment Visa
- Must have the ability to work overtime in support of department needs
- Fluent in English, both written and verbal
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize throughout the workday while remaining focused and organized
- Demonstrated ability to be pro-active in thought and action
- Strong organization skills
- Analytical with strong attention to detail
- Effective interpersonal skills, including proven ability to listen, comprehend, effectively communicate clearly and concisely to obtain positive results
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
- Willing to pitch in and help on last minute projects or assist team members
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Comfortable with numbers and basic mathematical skills
- Has a demonstrated strong work ethic, and reliability
- Comfortable working in a professional business environment
- Must be able to commute to the different PHX buildings as needed.
Desired Qualifications
- A passion for compliance and doing the right thing
- A minimum of two (2) years at the Company
- Demonstrated understanding of applicable Trade Compliance laws and regulations
- Ability to relate to clients, government officials and employees at all levels
- Strong familiarity with, and continued pursuit of proficiency in Expeditors’ operating systems, including GCI, CFIT, EDMS, ETMS, and, where applicable, third-party systems used to conduct Expeditors’ transactions
- DG certification(s)
- Proven research, problem solving and follow-up skills
- U.S. Customs Broker license - Preferred
- IATA/FIATA Cargo Certification - Preferred

- Use of standard office equipment - computer with keyboard and mouse, phone, fax/copy/scan machine, etc.
- The ability to work off-site
- Functions performed primarily while seated at desk
