The Elevator Pitch 

We are looking for a Software Engineer to play a key role developing innovative software in a hardware enabled environment.  

The Software Engineer reports to our Software Director (to be hired), and joins our team of software, hardware and algorithm engineers to develop quality products in Evolv’s positive, energetic and collaborative environment.  

Success in the Role: What key outcomes and milestones will you be expected to achieve in your first year?

In the first 30 days, you will: 

  • Gain an understanding of existing software teams, processes, routines, and tools.  
  • Establish credibility with the engineering team by contributing code and participating in design/code reviews. 
  • Build relationships with product and engineering teams. 

By the end of the first year, you will: 

  • Show competence in diving into challenging problems close to the hardware on our sensory embedded platform.  
  • Contribute to debugging as well as designing and implementing software in a CI/CD (DevOps) environment.  
  • Contribute to the small team environment, bringing versatility and flexibility to solutions across multiple technologies, for both new software releases and for issues found at customer sites.  
  • Help with developing new products. 

Requirements: What skills will set you up for success in this role? 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (Electrical preferred)

Software Development Experience:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience developing high-quality, high-performance C++ applications in Windows and/or Linux environments
  • Strong understanding of core computer science principles including algorithms, data structures, operating systems, design patterns, and microprocessor architectures
  • Experience with multi-threaded programming and data path handling

Tools & Technical Proficiency:

  • Proficient in software development tools such as Visual Studio, debuggers, static/dynamic code analysis tools, and version control systems

Analytical & Collaboration Skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and technical troubleshooting abilities
  • Strong work ethic and a proactive, team-oriented mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively with remote teams in a fast-paced environment

Bonus Points For:

  • Knowledge of networking protocols and systems, including TCP/IP, cybersecurity, and control/management/forwarding plane software
  • Familiarity with MATLAB for modeling, simulation, or data analysis
  • Experience with AWS services, cloud infrastructure, and database technologies
  • Exposure to magnetic field sensing, computer vision, or image processing techniques

You will be joining the Software Development Team, reporting to the Director of SW Engineering (to be hired). The team culture is one based on building trust, collaboration, on-going development through kindness, authenticity, courage, drive and fun!  

Where is the role located? 

Our headquarters (and this role) is located in Waltham, Massachusetts. As a member of the Engineering team we expect you to come into the office daily, but we understand that things come up—you can work remotely from time to time for one-off needs.  

What is the salary range? 

The base salary range for this full-time position is $115,000 - $135,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
