Director, Infrastructure & Operations , IT Technical Services

Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift

Position Summary: 

The Director of Infrastructure & Operations (I&O) reports to the Vice President of IT and is responsible for leading the technical support and engineering teams (Networks, Servers, Data Center, Communications (Telephony), and Cloud Platforms), along with the Infrastructure Operations of Covenant Health. This role involves setting the technical vision and direction with IT senior leadership, developing the I&O strategy that aligns with organizational goals, and managing the infrastructure services that support the delivery of new and existing technology services to our customers and employees. The Director of I&O will also implement and maintain best practices, technical standards, and meet security policies to support our organizational risk tolerance.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

 

Leadership:Direct and provide leadership to all infrastructure staff, including System Engineers, Administrators, Data Center Operations staff, Platform Specialists, Technical Architects, and Vendors/Partners/MSPs.

Change Agent: Support and lead the efforts to change team cultures, dynamics, processes, and technologies that provide moderns solutions to the organization.

Team Management:Lead IT infrastructure management team to ensure performance management and career development. Provide technical leadership and direction, delegate responsibilities appropriately, and identify management development opportunities.

Staff Development: Provide leadership, development, coaching, and guidance to ensure the appropriate departmental developmental goals are set and achieved.

Ongoing Continuous Development: Champion innovative efforts and stay abreast of leading-edge solutions for recruitment, development, and retention of the infrastructure workforce.

 

Technical Management

Technical Oversight: Design, implement, and maintain network, server, data center, telephone, and cloud infrastructure across multiple physical locations and platforms.

Project Delivery: Oversee the execution and ultimate delivery of Infrastructure projects as well as application projects with Infrastructure dependencies.

Performance Monitoring: Monitoring of network and systems performance, ensuring availability and reliability. Perform capacity planning and propose solutions as needed.

Disaster Recovery: Implement, maintain, and test IT Disaster Recovery exercises in support of the Business Continuity Plan.

Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends, making recommendations for improvement.

 

Strategic Planning & Implementation

Strategic Planning: Develop and maintain strategic infrastructure roadmaps, provide tactical action plans, and ensure optimum planning of IT projects and resources.

Resource Planning: Conduct proactive resource planning based on anticipated demand.

Milestone Establishment: Establish deliverables and projected milestones for solution delivery in partnership with business leaders and Senior Executives.

Technical Roadmap: Lead the development of IT strategy and technical roadmap, ensuring integration with overall IT and organizational strategies.

 

Vendor & Budget Management

Vendor Management: Manage vendor relationships, ensuring contracts and performance meet standards and the needs (current and future) of the org.

Budget Management: Develop annual operating budgets and long-term capital budgets (3+ years) for infrastructure projects. Ensure alignment with departmental and organizational strategic objectives.

 

Operational Efficiency

Performance Monitoring: Monitor network and systems performance, ensuring availability and reliability. Perform capacity planning.

Service Management: Oversee operational and service management processes to ensure performance of all technology subcontractors.

 

Collaboration & Relationship Building

Collaboration: Collaborate with IT and clinical teams for alignment and integration of services. Partner with IT leadership, business unit leaders, and service providers to provide strategic solutions and operational efficiencies.

Relationship Building: Develop relationships with key business leaders to identify service gaps and propose solutions. Maintain credibility with key individuals at hospitals and corporate offices. Build and maintain relationships with internal and external IT and business leaders to understand business needs and ensure cost-effective delivery of IT services.

Local travel required.

Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:           

None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a Bachelor’s degree in a directly-related field from an accredited college or university.

 

Minimum Experience:         

Minimum of 7 years of leadership experience in an enterprise-sized IT organization required.

 

Licensure Requirement:      

Employee must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license and state mandated minimum insurance coverage. Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure
