Overview
About the Role
The main responsibility of the Data Uniformity Specialist is to identify, investigate, and correct issues related to medical record numbers, electronic and paper health records, and University Hospital’s information system databases. This role ensures the accuracy and consistency of the Master Patient Index (MPI) and electronic medical record data, helping to protect the integrity of patient information and support overall patient safety.
Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
Carefully review and appropriately redact requests for the release of sensitive health information, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations and institutional policies. This includes data related to HIV/AIDS status, mental health diagnoses and treatment, substance use history, and alcohol-related medical information.
Examine and process subpoena requests that involve protected health information, particularly those concerning HIV/AIDS, mental health, substance use, and alcohol-related records. Ensure that all legal and confidentiality requirements are met before any information is disclosed.
Conduct thorough chart reviews to identify inconsistencies, omissions, or discrepancies in patient records. Work to resolve these issues to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the health information system.
Support overall patient safety through accurate data management
Qualifications
What You’ll Bring
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management required
National certification required (RHIA or RHIT)
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a Health Information Management (HIM) department or in the administrative/business area of healthcare
Acute care hospital experience preferred
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
Demonstrates professionalism, tact, and diplomacy when interacting with:
Hospital departments
Medical staff
External organizations
Exhibits:
Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities
High attention to detail
Proficient in PC applications, including:
Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Adobe Acrobat
Equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training may be considered in place of the degree requirement

Compensation (NJ Job Transparency Law)
The expected salary range for this position is ($66,943.00 - $95,892.00) per year, in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
