Cleveland Clinic’s Department of Hematology and Oncology includes several programs devoted to specific disease or treatments of head and neck cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, genitourinary cancer, sarcoma, leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, blood and marrow transplantation, disorders of the blood, and management of rare cancers. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide care and transfusion services to cancer patients in an ambulatory setting. In this role, you will interact directly with patients, families and visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their healthcare experience and provide healthcare education as needed.

A caregiver in this position works days between the hours of 7:00 a.m. -- 5:00pm

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will: 

  • Provide professional nursing care in an ambulatory setting.
  • Assess patients, complete nursing assessments, document findings in patient records and notify physicians of abnormal findings.  
  • Initiate CPR/emergency measures as needed.
  • Perform telephone triage and call rotations.   
  • Establish care plans in collaboration with patients, families, care coordinators and the health care team.  
  • Evaluate, initiate and maintain standards of care.  
  • Develop, evaluate, adapt and document health education and provide it to patients and families.

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing   
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)   
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 
  • One year of recent experience as an RN OR LPN, Medical Assistant and/or other unlicensed clinical healthcare experience if applicant is a current Cleveland Clinic caregiver in an ambulatory setting transferring into an RN role but remaining in the same current ambulatory Cleveland Clinic setting OR a current Cleveland Clinic caregiver in a clinical role within the same specialty area transferring into an ambulatory area  
  • Cancer-specific ongoing education

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)  
  • Experience working in an inpatient hospital setting

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
  • May requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
  • Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.
  • Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
