Bay Cities Metal Products is a rapidly growing sheet metal fabrication company. We are seeking a driven and professional Outside Sales Representative to support and grow our customer base throughout Northern California from Sacramento to the Bay Area as well as Reno, Nevada. This role is critical to developing strong client relationships, identifying new opportunities, and promoting our products and services in the field. Compensation includes a base salary, commission, and benefits such as medical, dental, and paid vacation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients in the field, delivering responsive and professional support
- Conduct regular visits to customer locations while promoting products and maintaining safety and health compliance
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with current customers to support retention and account growth
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities from both known and untapped sources
- Represent the company in a professional manner, acting as the “face” of Bay Cities Metal Products in the market
- Establish yourself and the company as a trusted resource and expert in sheet metal and building product solutions
- Prepare and present customized sales proposals, clearly communicating product features and value
- Resolve customer issues efficiently, providing timely and high-quality service
- Collaborate with the internal sales team and management to develop and execute effective sales strategies
- Provide feedback and market intelligence to management to help improve margins and inform production planning
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with customers and internal teams
- Accurately update and manage client information in the customer relationship management (CRM) system
- Participate in customer-focused events such as trade shows, sporting events, and client meals to strengthen relationships and promote brand visibility
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Outside sales experience required; 2+ years preferred
- Proven track record of generating new business and growing existing accounts
- Experience working with contractors, builders, or fabricators is a plus
- Familiarity with sheet metal products or technical sales is strongly preferred
- Prior experience using a CRM system to manage accounts and track sales activity
Skills and Competencies:
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Outgoing, professional demeanor with a strong commitment to customer service
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
- Valid Class C California Driver’s License with a clean driving record
- Ability to travel statewide as needed (including recurring visits to the offices in Manteca, CA)
- Knowledge of sheet metal and/or building materials is a plus
- Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision
- Able to adapt quickly to changing customer needs and sales conditions
- Willingness to learn and comply with California sales laws and industry regulations
- Proficient in using CRM systems and managing client data
Work Environment:
This role involves frequent travel and work in a variety of settings, including but not limited to job sites, company facilities, and customer offices. Conditions may vary and can include exposure to varying indoor and outdoor environments, including varying temperatures. Occasional visits to the manufacturing shop floor with exposure to noise and dust. Compliance with all safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), is required in each work environment.
Physical Demands:
The role requires the ability to handle various physical demands, including:
- Sitting for extended periods while driving
- Standing, walking, or navigating customer sites and job locations
- Lifting, carrying, or transporting sample products or promotional materials (up to 25 pounds)
- Regular use of mobile devices and laptops in the field
- Adherence to ergonomic practices and safety protocols, including proper lifting techniques and PPE use when applicable
Compensation:
This position is exempt and complies with California's wage and hour laws. Compensation for this role ranges from $75,000 to $85,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
