Your Impact

Enterprise is a new, big market for Axon, comprising of verticals outside of public safety including retail, healthcare, and private security. As a staff software engineer on the Enterprise team, you will be a key technical leader driving the cloud strategy for Axon Evidence in order for us to win in these markets.

Using your experience building large-scale cloud services, you will collaborate with other staff and senior engineers to shape and drive the technical direction for Enterprise. Your strong system design skills will aid you in taking a holistic approach to ensuring our products are bulletproof and fault-tolerant, while meeting demanding interactivity and responsiveness requirements. Your customer-obsession leads you to join forces with product and design to imagine and deliver innovative solutions to key customer problems.

You have a high bar on standards of excellence, and can effectively steer teams to make technical decisions that deliver highly reliable systems. You are a force multiplier, and can coach and mentor the next set of engineering leaders. You foster a friendly, open, introspective culture that encourages everyone to speak their mind and avoid red tape, unnecessary rituals, bureaucracy and politics. As a senior technical contributor, you have a passion for technology, and keep abreast of the latest trends, frameworks, and tools. As a technical leader, you advise our Senior Director of Engineering and Vice President on technical strategy for the wider division, while balancing our business and engineering priorities to help determine the right long-term initiatives and investments.

What You’ll Do
 
Location: Seattle - Work from home as much as you'd like but live near Seattle so it's easy to collaborate face to face when it's beneficial
Reports to: Senior Director of Engineering

  • Leads by example, driving major projects from design to production
  • Sets a high bar on standards of excellence, providing deep technical insights during architecture design reviews
  • Is an effect mentor, growing engineers into the senior and principal band
  • Is customer obsessed, and effectively works back from the customer outcome to build the right solution
  • Builds services that adhere to our high bar on availability, performance, and security in this mission-critical space
  • Is curious and hungry to learn, and is up to speed on the latest technologies and frameworks

What You Bring

  • 12+ years of experience in software engineering
  • Has driven technical strategy that impacts across multiple teams
  • Expertise in building large scale cloud services, including deep knowledge with different database technologies such as SQL, NoSQL, and queuing systems
  • Experience designing and delivering high-availability, scalable cloud-based systems
  • Backend cloud experience in managed languages such as Java, Scala, Go, C#, or similar
  • Experience working with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, etc)

The Pay: Axon is a total compensation company, meaning compensation is made up of base pay, bonus, and stock awards. The starting base pay for this role is between USD 168,750 in the lowest geographic market and USD 270,000 in the highest geographic market. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, geographic market, and often a combination of all these factors.
