WHAT IS THE JOB?

The Director of Strategic Data is responsible for overseeing the collection, integration, and reporting of data across the organization, with a focus on developing efficient, scalable reporting products, dashboards, and metrics. This role works closely with internal teams to translate complex data into actionable insights, leveraging a deep understanding of the national education landscape including rapidly evolving national and state data sets—while engaging with state-level officials to ensure alignment with broader educational trends and organizational priorities.

Pay rates for this position:

We bring in all employees at the midpoint of the salary range for your role. Knowing that not all cities share the same cost of labor, we make offers using a tiered approach based on your geographical location. While the majority reside in Zone 1 or Zone 2 areas, we acknowledge variations, even within counties, ensuring fair compensation for all based on their specific location's cost of labor.

For the Director, Strategic Data position, here is what we will offer:

Zone 1 (areas characterized by lower labor costs [e.g., Charleston, WV, Cleveland, OH, Phoenix, AZ, Omaha, NE, etc.]): $124,080 annually

Zone 2 (areas with moderate labor costs [e.g., Syracuse, NY, Ann Arbor, MI, Denver, CO, San Diego, CA, etc.]): $133,386 annually

Zone 3 (areas known for high labor costs [e.g., Washington, D.C., Trenton, NJ, Los Angeles, CA, Seattle, WA, etc.]): $142,691 annually

Zone 4 (areas with the highest labor costs [e.g., Bridgeport, CT, New York City, NY, San Francisco, CA, San Jose, CA, etc.]): $158,202 annually

WHAT WILL YOU DO IN THIS ROLE?

  • Oversee the data collection, integration, analysis, and reporting across the organization.
  • Lead the design and execution of data collection processes and conduct in-depth analyses to inform strategic decision-making and support organizational priorities.
  • Ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and usefulness of all data products.
  • Oversee the integration of national, state, and third-party data sets to enhance analytical capabilities and improve insight generation.
  • Collaborate with state and national education and workforce bodies to understand and appropriately utilize varied data sets, including accountability measures.
  • Collaborate across the organization to ensure internal data is collected, analyzed, and shared in support of organizational strategy and goals.
  • Develop and maintain replicable, scalable data products, including dashboards, reports, and key metrics aligned with best practices.
  • Implement analytics and visualization tools, including Tableau, Sigma BI, Python, R, or Qlik, to meet current and future needs.
  • Engage with external partners to ensure third-party data is analyzed and reported in accordance with best practices.
  • Build and maintain relationships with state-level officials to align data strategies with policy and practice.
  • Lead the creation of Communities of Practice (CoPs) focused on effective data use among school districts, school sites, and educators.
  • Manage a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, analysts, and support specialists to deliver high-quality data solutions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams, including Tech, to define data product requirements and ensure seamless integration and effective use of data systems.

Qualifying work experience, as identified by the VP, People Operations, may substitute for the education requirement.
