Position Summary:

We at 834 Labs are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Data Research Specialist Intern to join our team in the health insurance sector. This role is responsible for collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and synthesizing healthcare and insurance-related data to support business decision-making, regulatory compliance, market intelligence, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have strong research skills, a solid understanding of healthcare systems, insurance processes, and a passion for data-driven insights.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research on healthcare trends, payer/provider models, claims data, utilization patterns, and regulatory developments.
  • Gather and analyze internal and external data from sources such as CMS, state health departments, claims databases, and industry publications.
  • Develop comprehensive reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to communicate findings to stakeholders across business units.
  • Monitor changes in health policy and insurance regulations and assess their potential impact on business operations and strategy.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, quality assurance teams, business analysts, and product teams to support strategic initiatives and performance measurement.
  • Clean, validate, and standardize raw data to ensure accuracy and usability for reporting and analysis.
  • Maintain and improve data collection methodologies and research frameworks.
  • Assist in competitive analysis, benchmarking studies, and predictive modeling efforts.


Requirements

Required Qualifications:

2+ years of experience in data research, preferably in the health insurance or healthcare industry.

Strong proficiency in Excel and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).

Familiarity with health data standards and systems (e.g., ICD codes, CPT codes, HIPAA compliance, EHR/EMR systems).

Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, ACA, and commercial insurance markets.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly.

High attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and a critical-thinking mindset.


Preferred Qualifications:

Internship or project experience involving healthcare or insurance data.

Basic knowledge of health insurance concepts (e.g., claims, coverage types, provider networks).

Familiarity with any data analysis tools like Python, R, or statistical software (helpful but not required).

Exposure to healthcare coding systems (e.g., ICD, CPT) or HIPAA regulations is a plus.

Enthusiasm for working with data to improve healthcare outcomes and operations.
